This also happened with my asus g14 which came with Liquid Metal. Since I use it and then have to put it in my backpack, the LM moved off of the dies and it would overheat like crazy. I put some arctic mx6 on it, but the performance wasn’t good enough, but it was a stopgap while I waited for ptm7950. The Honeywell stuff is nearly as good as the Liquid Metal, so that’s what has been in it for the last year.
@olusklocАй бұрын
I don't think grooves are improvement to cooling at all. Most CPU heatspreaders are polished ultra flat for a reason. Liquid metal is like about 80W/M-K when cooper is almost 400W/M-K and heatpipes in the range of over 1000W/M-K. So still keeping liquid metal layer as thin as possible should improve heat transfer and this grooves create unnecessary high spots. However as You said they might be neccessary to keep the liquid metal in place and not have dry spots. But if it's not the case polished and ultra flat heatspreader should give the best result (in theory of course, might be other factors). Might be worth to try and see the temp difference. Also keep in mind drop test should be done when everything is at maximum operating temperature, there's much more likely to separate liquid metal when hot.

That was probably too light of a test. Glad it still worked. A lot of people order from Amazon and I used to work there. PlayStation 5s will be thrown up to 10 feet into a truck regardless of if it says fragile. The driver is forced to load 300 packages in about 4 minutes. Sometimes they have time to be more gentle. Sometimes not. So next time anyone gets any electronic from Amazon thoroughly test it.

My ps5 pro dropped a few feet from the ground. Within the first 14 hours of owning it 😢. But it still runs fine! I'm glad to see the major improvements on the pro! I been taking apart the launch model and cleaning it myself. Even modified the cooler parts where they made there revisions. These holes above the power bank. Also i had to modify my ps5 launch models power supply. I made it to where there's more airflow to the power supply so it don't shut off on me no more! No more 18 minute gameplay to get shut off randomly. Now the ps5 can stay on for days without turning off out of no where.

Every action has an opposite reaction: While falling the liquid metal should go up, not down When hitting the table it should go down, but the fact of hitting the table doesn't help pushing the liquid metal down as the board is not screwed and it falls flat, meaning the liquid metal is moving a bit down, then inwards and then outwards. A better test would be to slowly lift it as high as you can with both hands, and quickly simulate a high speed fall to then fully and abruptly stop without hitting anything, that stop would make the liquid metal go down (only after going up tho)
