I'd recommend to use a small copper heatsink with thermal putty on the retimer chip , the reason for them frying is way too much heat , fitted my copper heatsink before starting using the Xbox X & also fitted one on the Xbox One X HDMI encoder Chip which tends to blow also , since fitting these never had an issue . For the price of a couple of $ well worth it 👍

Awesome vid! I have this console….. but my controller has a sticky “B” button! Sent it off under warranty once and got it back “fixed” but then went wrong again outside the warranty. You didn’t show the cleaning of the controller in this vid, have you got a separate one? I know you have lots of vids!! Just nervous about attempting to fix stuff as I worry about breaking it…. (My car would tell you many stories if it could talk!) 😂

I came across your channel a couple of weeks ago and have binge-watched most of your videos. Have you ever considered making a pilgrimage to the electronics Mecca of the world: Shenzhen, China? You could go into one of their numerous electronics malls and probably stock up on all of the bits and bots you might need for pennies! Just an idea for you in the future… (btw, I’m not Chinese, but I did live and work in China for most of my thirties)

@Druid_Plow12 күн бұрын
Special edition console, like Ty said speckled paint, it's similar to what you can see on the base. Although it is kinda silly because you can barely see it when the console is off, and when it's on and spinning forget about it.

One thing I never saw you try, was check the voltage rails from the Power Supply. I know on a PC, the power supply supplies both the 12v and 5v to the system. I'm not really sure about the XBox. But that is something I would have checked while troubleshooting. Obviously that wasn't the problem here, but something to check in the future.

FYI... I was a farm worker/tractor driver and fed up with long hours for little money so started to repair laptops part time 20 years ago. My hobby turned into a full time job and now I'm almost retired at 56 but, there's always a but, I never owned a shop and worked from home and I never advertised, working through word of mouth mostly. These 2 things, a shop and adverts, would have been my 2 biggest expenses (and benefits) so my growth was slower than it could have been but that's balanced out by needing a lot less money, no rent or big ad bills. It took me about 3 years to be fully into the repair business and I was able to stop the farm work but if I'd had a lot more money to start I could've done it in 2 years I think. I did get a couple of grants from charities here in the UK and got some help with book keeping, paying tax and NI, and general helpful business tips from my local council. I also never did "fixed rate" repairs and always charged hourly and I used the best parts available which cuts down on warranty claims because you have to warranty parts and also guarantee your work. I got a good reputation for honest repairs at reasonable rates because I was always straight with people and if their laptop was worth £50 I wouldn't do a £100 repair on it. Why not give it a go in your spare time and see how you get on but don't throw your life savings into it until you've got enough business to have some spare cash after you pay your bills. You can also start with some basic equipment, there's no need to spend £1500 on tools, a good soldering station, hot air station, decent screwdrivers, a multimeter, and you're good to go for basic repairs. The other bits you can buy as you need them!! Hope this helps.....

4:42 Yeah, about that... I opened mine just to clean and jacked up that exact ribbon connector. Idk if I just forgot to unplug it or if the cable just snagged, but I turned the console to check for more screws and the whole sandwich slid out of the lunchbox and lifted the connector. 😮💨 $150 to a cool shop down the road for the soldering job.

I watch these videos and laugh. It’s a complete joke and shouldn’t be doing this. It’s all guesswork and have I got spare board laying about. Messing about taking parts of you didn’t need too. I done electronics for over 30 years and you are clueless in what you do. Heard of a thing called an oscilloscope? Would save you a lot of time if you knew how to use one. Could test signals and wouldn’t need to keep pulling stuff off and guess. Try learning ohms law and all the other maths you need to know what you’re doing. Sorry if you think I’m being rude but this is no way to go and you’re just wasting time and also you could end up missing faults that cause the fault in the first place. Your just end up with the fault again because it was caused from somewhere else. You’re not great with your hot air and flux. Also cotton buds ? That leave lots of micro fibre behind on ic legs,etc. it’s all a big no and you don’t do this in cleaning flux off.
@AcidicHotwire13 күн бұрын
....and I just read comments like this and laugh. The people that write them are typically arrogant twits that need to pretend they're better than some random dude on the internet because they're so insecure in their own lives. You may be good at your specialty but this man managed to get it done while battling cancer, and the physical and mental issues that come with chemo. His solution may not be perfect but it worked, and he explained what he was doing in a way a layman could understand, and we have no idea what tests were done off camera. Grow up dude and stop taking out your personal demons on others.

@@AcidicHotwire yeah it does because I seen people get hurt because they took stuff to people to repair who didn’t know what they was doing and end up blowing up in front of the person at home causing damage to them and their property. Yeah it does make me mad and the accidents I seen in my time with people messing about with electronics and getting hurt. People think you watch a few videos and then you’re an expert. It takes years to become good at this and you are always learning. Just like people who buy cheap aftermarket batteries for their phone and the thing ends up blowing up in their pocket or phone stops working because they didn’t want to take it to Apple, Samsung,etc because of the right to repair. That’s why these companies try to stop you repairing stuff because of the fake electronics, batteries out there. But you all think they are ripping you off and your do it yourself with cheap aftermarket crap and not having a clue what your doing. Don’t matter what I say you know better.
@AcidicHotwire12 күн бұрын
@ I've been repairing electronics and running IT departments for nearly 30 years myself. I would never hire someone that presented an argument like that, regardless of their level of knowledge. I never said you were wrong, I said your attitude was. The way you presented your argument isn't going to win any converts, nor will it correct the behavior you dislike so much. If you've been doing this for general customers for 30 years, as you've said, I would've thought you would have already learned how to distribute warnings and knowledge in a more effective way by now.
