Trooper killed on I-95 in St. Lucie County pursuing felon, FHP says

A 26-year-old Florida Highway Patrol trooper was tragically killed early Friday morning while trying to detain a fleeing felon on Interstate 95 in St. Lucie County, authorities said.

It’s not hard to do better. And having a badge and sirens doesn’t give you the right to endanger the public needlessly. Think about the reality of turning around and driving against traffic with or without lights and the chaos and carnage it will most likely cause when now not only are oncoming drivers faced with the shock and aftermath of dealing with one wrong way driver but before they even recover from that they have an other coming at them. This cop should have never turned his car around and there is no argument you can make that could change that.

Why don't they just say it!!! He pulled out in front of a tractor trailer!!! He failed to properly look for on coming traffic and didn't see the truck until it was to late. Unfortunately it happens everyday and the police are the first to figure out who was at fault but not in this case.

I support police and firmly believe kia boys & the like must be stopped. This will be an interesting case, but murder charges on the suspect seems like a big reach that won’t hold. If a suspect fleeing against traffic, causes a law abiding driver to swerve off the road as a better option than a head on collision, but he hits a tree and dies as a result, a murder charge seems justified. If the trooper had pulled to the side and got on the radio, instead of making a U turn, nobody dies. Case law? How is this any different than the cop in Minneapolis pursuing an unknown suspect through a red light on North Lyndale & 42nd at 90mph and T-boning / killing a guy who had the green light? Suspect got away so never charged, but the cop gets charged with manslaughter. (Not sure of exact charges) Trooper died in this case so I guess he can’t be charged? The Minneapolis cop survived so he can be charged? I want to see footage! From troopers dash cam, traffic cameras, and especially truckers dash cam.

It’s curious why the reporter left out the fact that the trooper disengaged the initial pursuit, then spotted the KIA again a short time later, and began a second pursuit…the reason given by the trooper at the press conference as to why the trooper didn’t disengage this pursuit was a matter of public safety. IMO it doesn’t seem logical to have 2 vehicles going the wrong way, especially since the pursuit would only increase the speed of the suspect.
