Thank you for uploading and sharing these wonderful moments of the past. Her Majesty, Queen Elizabeth II, was simply the embodiment of the best of Great Britain.

An historic piece of film...it was the LAST time the Queen rode side saddle {horseback} to take the salute at her birthday parade. All subsequent parades (since) have had her riding in a carriage, or simply standing on an elevated staging platform (as in the last 2 Windsor Castle Trooping the Colour ceremonies)

It brings home, so forcibly, the value of the monarchial system to a country. Would one find such love and affection towards a president or a dictator, I think not.

Thank you so much for this! I really appreciate hearing the voice of the late Tom Fleming. He had a great voice for such occasions and just as important, he knew when to talk and when NOT to talk and let the pictures and event speak for themselves.

We call that "Mansbridging" nowadays. Peter Mansbridge had it down to a fine science.

This is a wonderful video, thanks DavyFlute. I was in the parade, one of the marching Scout and Guiding band. Seen as very outdated and twee now, I loved the pomp and ceremony.

Bring back the height requirement for the Guards and re-establish the Guards depot. Another great British institution broken by the weak and feeble.
@michaelscott24453 жыл бұрын
I agree with the height requirement, but i dont know what the guards depot was ?
@kenUK7623 жыл бұрын
@@michaelscott2445 The Guards Depot at Pirbright in Surrey was where Foot Guards and Household Cavalry received their basic training on enlistment. It was exclusively a Guards establishment. Sadly it closed in the late 80's and basic training was transferred to the Infantry Training Centre at Catterick, Yorkshire.

The guards depot certainly sorted the wheat fron the chaff. I was going through basic training when this was on.

Nowadays, they've improved their spinwheels and refined their left and right forms better.

I went through the depot in 1991 with Windsor 21 platoon. Very tough but a great achievement. The Welsh guards were up lizzie barracks up the top.

The field officer made a mistake with orders at 1:28:50. Accidentally ordered the escort to right form before the about turn was ordered. The escort is confused and hesitant to execute the order

Why does the Queen Mother get the anthem, but the Queen doesn't? Seems the sovereign, rather than a Queen Consort, should have precedence.
@johnking51743 жыл бұрын
The Queen was on horseback and in uniform, which meant she took a salute rather than simply being transported in a carriage.
