I use the Hella day driving lights on my 76 series. They work really well. Connect the (red)positive to the ignition line and the (black)negative to the park lights line. That way you don’t need a relay or any smart wiring. When the ignition is turned on the day running lights are on, when the park lights are turn on the day running lights go out.

Andrew, I use a cheap 2000 watt induction cooker when out and about. I generally only run it at about 1500 watt. It did kill my cheap 2000 watt inverter. That inverter had been in my car for about 5 years running a coffee machine and frother. I now run my induction cooker from a 3000 watt Renogy inverter, powered by a 170 amp Renogy lithium battery, charged by a 60 amp DCDC Renogy charger. No problems running everything now. Remember, bigger is better if you have room. Love you vids mate.

Do consider the color temperature of the lights. The Kelvin value. 5500K is great for 'normal' conditions but a bit of rain, dust, twilight...it gets washed out. 4000k to 4300K is perfect for driving lights. It might be worthwhile to have a switcher, if you have LEDs, or Amber/Yellow covers for your lights.

The 7” round LED headlamps for the RR; it’s not legal just to bung in LED headlamps into a vehicle that didn’t come with them from the factory unless they meet the ADR. Hella are a trusted brand so I’d assume these lights are compliant but there are so many people who add aftermarket lights that are illegal due to non-compliance. Might be a good idea to add in your commentaries that people ensure modifications are compliant (shouldn’t need to tell people but you do it seems). I recently spoke to a dude who is over 50 and thought you could just hitch anything up to a tow bar and tow it. He never researched it and assumed anything was fine. Had no idea about max tow weights (vary per vehicle) or ATM, GCM, GVM, towball weights or anything including requirement of trailer brakes. He just assumed you could connect and tow anything the vehicle could pull. I was astonished and had to explain it and some of the serious dangers in not following the rules he had no idea about.

Hi Andrew, Another great video. I find the Redarc inverter fans to be intrusively loud even at low wattage draws. Other brands on the market run these wattages silently with the fans only kicking in after high wattage over several minutes. As in your video the fans kick in as soon as the 400w from the milk warmer kicks in.

Andrew, how effective are the lights you have as daytime running lights at cutting through the spray off the wheels of trucks when it is raining? I often see people with their parking lights ablaze, probably thinking the truck drivers can see them through the spray and as a former truck driver, I can assure those drivers are wasting their time because a truckie cannot see parking lights through tyre spray. Headlights are much more visible than parking lights but, I wonder if your daytime running lights work as well. By the way, I am writing about normal, incandescent bulbs. Cheers, Keith.

note 2kw only gives you 1.5-1.75 kw use you will likely need something between 3-5Kw or slightly higher pending on your VAC needs and a min of 2-4 or higher batts in series,, if you are are going to allow for shore power hookup whether at home/camp site/park/gen set, 20 amp @ 240 watts fused i'm all for induction however look at its power consumption in its use same with other electric cook tops and ovens Up to you what you function with Andrew, however whichever way you go weight is going to be a penalty of mitigation whether you run a 9kg gas bottle or go the route of VDC>vac and how much VAC you are planning to consuming from VDC this includes cameras, computers and so forth If going the route of induction cooking in this build you are likely going above 1 battery house batt.. though my opinion would start to look at a coaster bus/oka/iveco daily as a remote base type application, with the troop used as the remote explorer tow behind vehicle/remote travel,,, I suspect you have likely came to the same conclusion some years ago that the troopy has a finite space consumption to the point it is coming to short in length for what you need a d the width needs A FOOT OR MORE EITHER SIDE... and a 6x6 or 8x8 conversion

The whole induction cooktop, I love it in the home. Camping, never a fan. Camping to me means camp-fire and cooking with that. Fire bans, small butane cooktop. Two big things to consider, 1: How you camp and if you enjoy cooking. 2: Travelling with gas bottle weight vs how much battery power an induction cooktop sucks from batteries for a nightly feeding of 4 people. Then have to consider the special cookware that works with induction. Good idea in theory for late night one pan meals for 2, but apart from that I don't see a benefit.

Very pleased with my choice not to install LPG in my camper for numerous reasons. Induction or diesel cooktops - there are considerable negatives to these options as well. Working on needing at least 3 days of battery for east coast use (rain/overcast). I also have a small propane cooker in my car that I can use as backup. Andrew, Andrew, Andrew…for a ex Saffa, “induction cooking”…WTF? Harry from Fire to Fork, Paul Marsh, and a whole bunch of people are weeping. There is NOTHING better than lighting a campfire, using it to heat water, cook your meal…why the rush to turn on an electric stove?

While I agree 100%, Andrew is maybe not as young as he once was and is enjoying having some easy luxuries. Driving all day then setting up gets tiring. (Was not making a dig at being old either! 😂🙂]

Andrew, STOP!!! Think about what you originally wanted to do with the Troopy. Look where you are now?

Having fun. Lightweight is still an objective. But so is comfort. I'm not and was never building a minimalist build. And I love playing and testing gear. I just weighed the Troopy again so I'm keeping a close watch. My goal was increased comfort, simplicity and to end up 100kgs lighter all-up weight. Its my goal. I may achieve it. I may not. What you are witnessing is my way of trying.

That won’t be easily repairable in the outback, nor will spare parts be readily available in regional towns.
