I still find it amazing that in a comedy movie that is making fun of big budget Hollywood action movies, that Robert Downey Jr. was nominated for an Oscar. It really is crazy when you think about it, I really can't think of any other R rated comedy movie where one of the actors put in an Oscar nominated performance. If it hadn't of been the year of Heath Ledger's​ legendary Joker performance, Downey Jr. would of had a real chance of winning too. The thing is that even if Ledger hadn't of died, that Oscar was all but guaranteed as soon as the Dark Knight released. That fucking performance is one of the all time greatest acting performances in the history of film. From the moment he unmasked during the bank robbery scene at the beginning, every second of his portrayal of the Joker was just spine tinglingly brilliant. Even before he died, people everywhere where heralding his performance as not only the best portrayal of a villain, but one of the greatest performances in any film genre ever, but then once he died, he all but guaranteed the Oscar for best supporting actor, and cemented his Joker portrayal as legendary. It wasn't even a question that the Oscar was his, the other best supporting actor nominees didn't even need to be read off at the award show, it should have just been the Oscar for best supporting actor is going to Heath Ledger and everybody here and around the world knows it already so there really isn't any point in reading off the other nominees, lol. It's like when Daniel Day-Lewis decides to do a new movie, all the other actors in Hollywood get super pissed, lol. An actor can put in the best performance of their career and get nominated, but then they find out Daniel Day-Lewis has a movie the same year and they just fucking give up, lol. Either they just give up their chances of winning best actor over Day-Lewis, or they beg the studio to release the movie the following year so they at least stand a chance. Day-Lewis is the only actor ever to have 3 best lead actor Oscars, and he should have at least 5, he is just that fucking brilliant. I always get pumped when I hear he's doing a new movie because he's so fucking brilliant. It can be the most boring movie ever, but if Day-Lewis is in it, you can bet it's gonna be awesome. I just watched the clip of him winning for Lincoln, and it was funny AF. Meryl Streep was presenting, and usually the presenter reads of the nominees and then opens the envelope and says, "and the Oscar goes to"........, and then there is like a 5 to 10 second pause for suspense, and then they read off the winner. But Meryl Streep just opened the envelope, and before she had it all the way open, she goes, "and the Oscar goes to Daniel Day-Lewis", with literally zero pause as if she was like was there any doubt, was anyone surprised by that, lol.
