Oh yes, we celebrated our 25th wedding anniversary here few years back. There's a Japanese restaurant called Kanpai. Their wagyu BBQ is one of the best!

We went to Bamboo Hill tonight, also to Tap Room KL / Pizza Duo, we were thinking of it and when I saw your video, we booked for dinner. The surroundings are really nice, lots of greenery and well landscaped. Tap Room / Pizza Duo however didn’t deliver to expectation. Pizza was good, but service is awful, slow and lazy. And the place is swarmed at night, mostly young local crowds. Nive for a visit, supposedly Potager is a good fine dining restaurant there, but not sure I’d go back soon. Too far from where we live in KLCC and just not the right vibe at night.

Enjoyed the video...the few days we spent in Malaysia,we had the chance to try an Italian cuisine in KL,we were impressed.We once had pizza in Rome,we thought it was awful..ha,,ha.btw,Malaysians tend to eat out a lot,my partner and I only.eat out on special occasions though we appreciate fine cuisine.Is eating out part of their culture or is it purely because its affordable?

I liked the music. Sorry to hear about your dreadful experience at the Botanica. Like you I thought it looked fantastic but a restaurant is only as good as its food no matter how attractive the decor. I hope they upkeep the maintenance - I'll be curious to see how Bamboo Hills (btw where's the hill?) looks in 2 years 😁

I have heard that all those F&B outlets at Bamboo Hills are only temporary. In a few years they might get demolished for condos. Personally we enjoyed the Japanese restaurant there (Kampai Yakiniku).

I think they are adding condos. This development is much too nice and expensive to tear down.

Looks like a nice place. Looked up the website and they do have 3 towers planned just east of the eateries. Look like a grocery is planned too. Seems like a good development plan. Is that a decent part of the city? Says there is a MRT stop nearby.

Just how much money does one need to live in Malaysia? I've seen many videos which break down daily and monthly costs but no one gives an overall amount of money in the bank that is required. For example, I am from the UK and am 42 years old. Would a total amount of £800K (~$1M) be enough. If I received 4-5% passive income from share dividends, that would generate £32K-£40K a year. I am presuming that will be enough? I want to move to SE Asia very soon but, naturally, am nervous about the financial side of things and don't want to overlook anything. Thanks.

Hi Andrew. How would you compare living in KL with Siem Reap, Cambodia or Chiang Mai, Thailand??

I would not pick Chiang Mai because of the very polluted air during the burning season. Even Bangkok was hard enough to breathe last month when I was there. KL, which I was also there last month, is a giant metropolis, lots of concrete like that of New York City but much cleaner and the people are nicer. You get good health care in KL on par with the big hospitals in Bangkok. Siem Reap is a small town that has plenty of different cuisine that you’d never have to worry about whether you can eat anything. There are good restaurants like Malis (mango salad) or Wild where they make very good fresh spring rolls out of Caesar salad. There are hamburger places and Italian food places, all kinds. And in SR, you have an out of body experience of sort when you walk among the temples, to see the grand creations thousands of years ago made possible without any machine or modern invention. What SR lacks, however, are great medical centers. They do have hospitals but anything serious, you have to make the hour flight to Bangkok, KL, or Singapore. Siem Reap has an international airport. To stay long term in KL, you have to have a bit of money to fulfill their long stay requirements whereas in Cambodia there’s just easy visa extension. Both places are hot. If you like hot over cold weather, then you’ll be fine.

Hi Andrew (and other Malaysia fans) if I had only 4 days to visit Malaysia, do you recommend KL or Penang? I'm leaning towards Penang because I feel like it would be more accessible to walk around/get around. I'm open to both, but walkability and "ease" in use of public transport is also a main consideration. What would you recommend?
