Everything's looking amazing 👌 loving the large Trachys & Sabals, that Mule palm & butia looking great as well. Unfortunately Sabals aren't readily available in the UK which is a pity as believe they're really cold tolerant ❄️ can get an abundance of phoenix canariensis + washingtonia robusta where I am, although they really are borderline in terms of cold tolerance & more suited to the south coast of England. Summers here aren't especially warm either lol.🫣

Sabals like heat for sure.

i have 2 trachys in south jersey and one is just struggling. i transplanted one in the ground in early may and then another in early june and the one from early june is already ahead in growth… so weird. and the one planted in june is in a more shady spot too so i wonder if thats why

Long term full sun will be best for you. They may have not been used to the full sun (Acclimated)
@jiafeiqueen5 ай бұрын
@@tntropics i asked the seller when i got it what it’s sun conditions were and she said full sun but maybe it wasn’t as much sun as this spot. i mean it gets morning sun starting at probs 5:50 to 5ish i think

@@jiafeiqueen Did you fill the hole with potting soil? Mistake I've been seeing lately
@jiafeiqueen5 ай бұрын
@@tntropics only a small amount bc i couldn’t separate the grass from the dirt enough to fill the hole back up. but not rlly any. i had the same issue with the other palm so i did the same thing and that one is growing quickly

@tntropics does filling the hole with potting soil hurt the palm ?

Hey, I just planted a pygmy date palm in tennessee (near the end of may) and was wondering if it'll survive the winter?
@tntropics5 ай бұрын
No it will need to be foam board boxed and heated from Nov-March

@@tntropics I live near the nashville area and need to know how to board my palm cause iv'e never grown one before.
@tntropics5 ай бұрын
@@Thetreeguy Pygmy date palms are not very cold hardy. Better palm choices for you are Sabal minor and needle palms without protection and windmill palms (Trachycarpus fortunei) with some protection. If you live close to Murfreesboro you can come by my place. Here is a video from someone else on how the foam board method is done, also look at my channel for other palm videos. The foam board method is required on the Pygmy date because it is not very cold tolerant here. kzbin.info/www/bejne/i4LVl5l_drGfkNU kzbin.info/www/bejne/qZ-onWuldrR3Z5I

@@Thetreeguy I only grow Pygmy date in a pot and bring in garage over winter.

i just realised you're not into Yuccas at all? some of them like rostrata or linearis looks more tropical than arid an are super cold hardy!?
