I’m a meteorologist myself and something of a hurricane specialist. This is one of the best overviews I’ve seen. I’m not from Florida so I’m unfamiliar with this gentleman. But I’d recommend listening to him. Impressive.

Thank you for your comment! I moved to Florida several years ago from up North. I started learning the basics of Hurricanes as I wanted to understand exactly what might happen and how it develops. I'm definitely not expert. But, this one seems quite unusual. I've never seen something so disorganized develop this way. Especially when it was brushed off as a strong tropical storm at first. Does Milton seem like it's progressed differently than others? It really hasn't followed the same track as one that's coming to Florida. In fact, I thought this was a totally different system! Do you know of a good site where I can go back and track this through the past week?

I’m a 41 year resident of south Seminole County and a 61 year old Florida native. I was 14 months old when hurricane Dora and The Beatles decided to play at the same time in my hometown of Jacksonville FL on Sept 11 & 12, 1964! They famously had to nail down Ringo’s drums to the stage so they wouldn’t blow away!! It was the only hurricane to hit the NE coast of FL in the 20th century!! It took 40 years to really experience a hurricane that I would remember! Charley, Francis and Jeanne raked across central FL in 2004! Francis and Jeanne made landfall on Florida’s east coast, separated by only two miles and 3 weeks!! There has never been so many blue tarps covering damaged roofs across central FL after being hit by three major hurricanes!🌀 Every storm is different and comes with different risks! If you’re near the coast or on a large lake, flooding is your biggest concern. Being without power will be the biggest inconvenience for most of us. Don’t buy perishable foods until you know you have power afterwards! Many of us went through hurricane Irma in 2018. This storm WILL pack a bigger punch because of its west to east trajectory! I’m really concerned about Tampa taking a direct hit by a cat 3 storm. That hasn’t happened since 1921!

If you have common sense you will be fine. Talk to your neighbors. If you’re in a flood plain prepare for flooding. Expect to lose power. Be careful of big trees in your yard. Remove or tie down things outside that could blow away. Fill your car’s gas tank. Have a few hundred in cash on hand. Get batteries, flashlights and a good portable phone charger. Make sure your prescriptions are filled. If you have children be aware of their needs. What can they do to entertain themselves without electricity? You can charge your phone in the car if you have to. Don’t turn on the car in the garage with the garage door closed! There are lots of good websites that suggest what to do and what you may need.

@@saturn722 My nearest neighbor said our neighborhood never has flooded. Ian went fairly close and it rained a ton, but no water in our street. Got gas, have batteries, have some non-perishable stuff to eat. It's a new concrete block house (only a year old). The contractor said all the materials are rated for 120 mph. Plus it's just me - no kids or pets so I could leave pretty quickly if I had to. A good friend here said he'd just sit tight if it were him (he's been here since 1999).

Prayer works but not in ways we hope for or expect. Storms don’t miraculously change directions without a meteorological cause. I love the weather because it does what God designed it to do but we just take it for granted. It doesn’t mean God doesn’t care but I think he wants us to remember that because of sin we live in a fallen world. There was NO death in the perfect world He created! There was no pain or sadness or disease either! But just that one drop of sin by Adam & Eve completely changed the world into what we have today. Can God count on us to be there after the storm has passed? That’s when God’s people will be needed the most!
