Today we take a look at an Atlantic basin quickly waking up. The NHC monitors two areas today. One is an area of low pressure developing in the Southern Gulf of Mexico. It will develop as it moves Northwest this week, likely into Northern Mexico and Southern Texas later this week. It will bring heavy rain to the Central and Western Gulf Coast along with it. For now, significant development is not expected, but the rainfall will be substantial.
To the east of Florida, another low pressure area will slowly form early this week. It will work back to the west, and could become a Tropical Depression or Storm later this week. It should move into Florida, Georgia, or even South Carolina late this week. Heavy rain and gusty winds are likely in the region. If it develops, some folks could see Tropical Storm conditions. For now, computer models do not indicate anything strong, but we'll have to watch and see.
