Love you guys. I am realizing that ultimately, it's not about science and us lay people testing things, but more on finding an enlightened teacher with a lineage. We will always argue over percentages and translations etc. because we are entrenched in the mind. There is a whole other layer we miss. That is the blessing of a guru and the initiation that can illuminate the truth. Astrology is just the tool, so of course they all work!! It's how you use the tool. I think spending an equal amount of time on yourself- the vessel - is just as important.

I’ve had several popular Sidereal Vedic astrologers read my chart. A few of them told me the same thing: that I can’t live outside my home country, especially once I enter a particular Mahadasha. I’ve entered that Mahadasha and here I am, still living outside my home country (I’ve lived outside my home country for a combined total of 20 years now). The Tropical chart has proven to be more accurate in my case.

I personally found earnst's ideas and way of calculating the chart by mixing nakshtras and tropical zodiac really helpful. If it weren't for his chart calculator, I would've given up on astrology for not being the level of accuracy I want. Very excellent job mate. I seriously look forward to whatever you guys are upto in the field of astrology. Really appreciate earnst for standing his ground.

I just came here from KRS channel. He had mentioned Ernst Wilhelm in his video and I was searching for d60 explanations... This is a very interesting discussion and changes the way you look at charts.. I never gave much importance to rashi dashas before ,I have always looked at vimshotttari but yea now I will try with rashi centered ones.. Edited to add, no one's birth time is perfect it might be off by 20 or 30 minutes making a huge difference in divisional chart calculations and the true strength of the planets hence predicting all the events in one's life is not possible.1:17:22 yea I am at that point right now..The way you explained swadharma is so beautiful..

Great video. Thanks for the fascinating discussion. There seems to be an underlying presupposition that astrology must be a science like physics or math and therefore only one zodiac an be the correct one. My own view, like that of Geoffrey Cornelius, is that astrology is a divinatory art and is an alternate way of knowing about the universe. It is not surprising, then, that a randomly chosen ayanamsa works as well as Lahiri with most astrological techniques. There also seems to be an Aristotelian presupposition that something cannot be and not be simultaneously. This belief caused scientists no end of difficulty in coming to terms with the fact that light can exist as both a wave and a particle. When they realized that light could both be and not be a wave or a particle, the path was opened for the development of quantum physics. My point is that the search for the "correct" zodiac is probably doomed to failure. What the tropical zodiac has going for it is that its starting point is universeally agreed upon. The Nakshatra wheel has a more ambiguous starting point, so there is a great deal of discretion in choosing where to begin the first Nakshatra, which will then produce different results in the various astrological techniques that depend on the Nakshatra frame of reference.

Hey Ryan, love your videos. Do you use the same Dasha calculations on the Tropical chart that you would for Vedic? Eg. in Vedic my Rahu Dasha began on Jan 4, 2020, would it be the same for the tropical chart even though my Rahu may be in a different house and/or sign?

Thanks for this video. Shows how difficult it is for professionals to agree on the zodiac, even considering all the "research". I have been thinking: Can the sexual revelations/allegations that are coming out over the past month be seen as Saturn moving over the gandanta point in Scorpio (Sidereal).? I cannot seem to justify this using tropical astrology. Is there a way to justify this using Tropical zodiac?

totally agree, it can't be both. My chart, and even planet conjunctions change between zodiacs, there's no way it's giving the sae reading between tropical+sidereaal/lahiri. (ex: in tropical I have sun-mercury-venus conjunct, and saturn-ketu are conjunct. In sidereal, only mercury/venus are conjunct, sun moved and is with mars now. Saturn moves away from ketu and is alone)

It sounds like the real difference between "new" techniques and the "traditional" ones is the understanding of the degree to which astrology is predominantly a quantitative or qualitative method. The traditional astrologers and the technique they deploy rely more on instinct, judgment, art of synthesis etc that's not really quantifiable. But traditional astrologers can also be known to be extremely accurate with prediction etc but they don't really quantify the data. So it comes down to if you want to believe astrology is like the art of reading a person, or more like astronomical science in its post-scientific-revolution sense.

Here's some thoughts if you go into this more in the future, please consider them seriously. A big flaw in his original test, which even he says didn't prove much and the percentages were close, is accurate birth time and close lagnas. For this a human being as a check is quite useful, as well as the fact that it's impossible to read a chart without the D9 at an absolute bare minimum ( particularly when you speak of "sva dharma" like at the end of this talk). Random people off the internet giving their times, who knows what you'll get and anyone whose practiced astrology will know this. Also where is his original research? What are the exact percentages? Where is this research published? Or if he can predict height to a half inch, why not write up a paper on it showing it in both systems? This should be simple, so why has no one done it, yet you engage in constant debates based on ideas. If you put a fraction of the energy into showing an actual comparison, maybe this debate would move somewhere. There is a thing called peer review in proper research, not sure why this is glossed over so much here..Also, Ernst rips into a certain persons Jaimini version, yet note that the author he chooses not to mention ( obvious though if your well read enough) does not put all his knowledge in his books, so what do you expect? All the answers to be laid out in a pithy book? None of the ancient scriptures did this and many contain purposeful errors, yet continuously remind one that nothing can be had without a guru for a reason. However Ernst then goes off on his own tangent and "added rules" when comparing bodies with Ryan using the trimshamsha? Where's that rule coming from? And then he has some interesting interpretations of what the D60 is. Where's he come up with this stuff? Seriously, has Ernst ever had a living teacher for any significant amount of time? I'm not being cross here, but these are legitimate questions if you folks are claiming astrology is a "perfect" science. Is anything in creation prefect? Not here to say what I or what anyone else does is better than the other, but seriously not much here to go off of and I was really hoping for a serious talk about actual research. It's just more "i see my technique works better" or " it's too complicated to show you" like many other astrologers out there. I've been following this conversation for years with an open mind, but you folks have produced almost nothing substantial in the realm of any of this and this, and prefer banning people from your channel when they ask real questions. Neither you nor Ryan have addressed any of the legitimate questions I bring up here ( i.e. where's the actual research?). You'll have to forgive me, but if someone can't even pronounce Parashara or Jaimini correctly, what else are they missing? And I have had an open mind with all this, even tested it myself quite a bit for some years- and don't see it working. I've also engaged with a handful of people in this camp to show me techniques or explain their reasoning and it always falls quite flat, or I get kicked off some group, or I hear the same tired old debates and arguments keep coming up in conversations like these without any solid comparisons being shown. My chart is a perfect test chart too, as I have five planets moving from 6th house Aries to 7th house Taurus in tropical. It's basically night and day. Just based on our interchange do you think I have an exalted Moon/Venus in the 7th house or Sun exalted/Mars in the 6th? Seriously now. If you'd like to, I'd love to take it over to personal message and we can throw up some blind charts together to make some predictions and test things out. It should be pretty clear if your system is as accurate/profound as you claim it is. What do you say?

Astrology is as much a science as psychology is a science. Astronomy and mathematics are sciences. But astrology is much more than astronomy and maths. This does not make astrology (or even psychology) any less enjoyable (or even meaningful) but declarations of astrology being a science is irritating, nonsensical and counter productive.

To be technical, any form or method of understanding your reality is to be called science. And each one has its own truth. Siderial, vedic or evoulutionary atrology, they all tell a similar strory. I would stop serching for perfect exact meaning or equation and focus on your individual truth. That is what any zodiac is forl. UNDERSTANDING YOUR REALATIVE TRUTH.

Monica - Umm no. Science and the scientific method is well established and one cannot apply the term 'science' without observing the scientific rules. This is not to say astrology has no merit. There is much meaning in the insights gleaned through the astrological 'method'. But to say it is a science is a bridge too far. I have both of Ryan's books and enjoy them very much but I do wish he just named them 'The Art of Vedic Astrology' :)

@@CarminaAmza research methodology is less to do about statistical testing and more about model and theory development. Since Ernst's personal bias to tropical, his research would not be even VALID because of lack of 3rd party or peer evaluation owing to subjectivity of his methods and tools in questionnaire responses.As far as I am concerned, Ernst is as floaty as Santos, only difference is he speaks and talks a lot about techniques but NOTHING IN ACTION!
