This is an introductory study in order to compare the efficacy of using the tropical vs. sidereal zodiac in conjunction with the teachings of classical Jyotish literature and their suggestions for gauging the the level of intelligence for individuals ( a fitting topic to guide us in researching this vital area). This first video discusses the methodologies used in this comparison along with an intro look at the chart of Albert Einstein. This video is a production of The Darshan Project, which seeks to introduce people to the basic fundamentals of Jyotish, Yoga, and Ayurveda without commercial concerns through a donation based platform.This video does not deal with vedic versus western astrology, but using vedic techniques with the tropical zodiac. I have done research into planetary cycles and the astrological ages. I could not reconcile the idea of the ages with the tropical zodiac.

Great video series (especially the most recent one demonstrating the historical use of sidereal zodiac). I like your research methodology because it is moving beyond ‘convenience sampling’. Have you studied the Francois and Michel Gauquelin research? I’ve heard the Mars effect only works when using the Tropical zodiac and not the sidereal zodiac but this statement could be wrong. However, the Gauquelins were working from a 20th century western astrology background, but Gauquelin mostly abandoned the assumptions of 20th century western astrology as a result of his research. Regardless of whether using Tropical or Sidereal zodiac it would be best to use the Gauquelin data because the problem of inaccurate birth times becomes less of an issue with such a large sample size (literally 1000s of charts).

One other note about the Gauquelin research - it actually is favorable research for using the whole sign house system because it demonstrates the effectiveness of the whole sign house system (used by Vedic astrology and Hellenistic astrology) as opposed to the typical western use of quadrant house systems.

@@KevinLopez-rl6wq There's support for various house systems in Vedic as well- you just need to know which one to look at for what. I've looked just a little into Gauquelin's research, so am aware of it. I actually thought I read something about his results working better with sidereal - which may have been part of him ditching western methods since they weren't working. I'd have to dig this up again, but I'm pretty sure there is something on this. In terms of inaccurate birth times, his research was pretty basic. Due to the sensitivity of the divisional charts in Vedic astrology, you kind of need to rectify any chart your looking at if you ask me, unless your just doing something off the birth chart - though then your not going to get super convincing research results. Next best is testing a rule that doesn't depend as heavily on planet degrees which is what Andrew Foss did in his research on twitter followers and astrology. Look it up - it's interesting. In terms of tropical/sidereal working better in any research. There could be research that proves the effectiveness of both - it's all a matter of which principles are used for which zodiac . One way to end this debate would be to do something like test Foss's research against a tropical zodiac - but no one who uses a tropical zodiac with Vedic principles is actually capable of real peer-reviewed research nor seems even interested in it, despite claims that they have done "research" on the topic to prove it to themselves ( yet shut you down in e-mails when you ask to see said research).

@@TheDarshanProject The results of the Guaquelin's findings did not depend on which zodiac you used but the power above of planets just above ascendant (hence 12 th house) and just before M/C (hence 9th house) this is using a quadrant house based system. But some astrologers found this hard to swallow despite the professionalism of the research. They had expected to see the planets in the first and 10 th houses in quadrant houses...this is why a previous comment mentioned the research proved whole houses or imo Vellow also? I use ken Bowsers interpretation techniques which he got through Cyril Fagan's research, which emphasises the power of planets above ascendant and near the m/c.

Thanks for the clarification Monica. I knew it was something that wasn't strictly tropical. However if a planet is just above the ascendant it would be in the first house per standard Vedic methods, and M/C can fall in various houses in equal house system, not just the 9th per my understanding.

To know whether it is sidereal or tropical...i think ascendant and only ascendant should be seen. Because predictions and explanations of events are meaningless because astrologers can explain the same event by many ways whatever fits them. 'Oh but look in navamsa chart; thats the Arudha lagna lord planet impact; here look at darakaraka; ' etc.... Ascendant way is the simplest way to figure out whether its sidereal or tropical because it is concrete, its physical body, its the energy that we resonate and emit when we are in new surrounding, meet new people since There are only 12 signs, 12 archtype energies. A good astrologer with good observation should be able to discern the ascendant. Ofcourse when we talk with people there are '3 energies' that usually comes out. One is ascendant sign(new place/surrounding/people), moon sign( when you are comfortable/friends/family)and any sign with stellium(so many things going on in the sign that the energy spills out) . The 'first meeting' with the person should be used to analyse the energy of the ascendant. As per my observation it is the Sidereal that really fits.

So which is the conclusion cause I didn't get it. Western or sidereal astrology is correct? I am born on 12may1986 and I dont know if I am taurus or aries sun sign.

Western principles used with western approaches is its own thing. For Jyotisha use sidereal placements.
