Perfect, thanks. Old laptop died, removed 512GB SSD, got an mSATA to SATA adapter, plugged it in via an empty slot in a tower system, enabled Hyper-V, followed your instructions and up and running in 15-mins. Excellent!😃

I got an old W10 running under Hyper-V as a Generation 2 VM. Disabling secure boot + Checkpointing and adding the old disk as a SCSI HD physical drive after VM creation got me a VM that booted w/o issues (except for getting a reasonable screen resolution going and the very slow speed) from the third reboot. It seemed to do bits of the standard first-start setups. If you want to move info between host and guest, set sharing up from the rightmost Hyper-V toolbar icon.

It's not working for me... I'm doing this on a uefi only system using windows 10. Configuret Hyper-V as you showed, managed to boot from the old windows 7 HDD but i get bsod 0x00007b... Is there any option in Hyper-V to manage the sata mode? I mean Legacy or AHCI mode... This was using IDE interface, if i use SCSI it just says "no bootable device detected". This windows 7 installation was done with EFI, MBR and maybe in sata ahci mode.

generation 1 didn't worked for me (I was just seeing a blinking cursor on the black screen) but generation 2 worked for me

you saved my old SSD, and I used the Generation 2 because its windows 11 and requires UEFI and TPM. now its boot, but I need to change the connector because it was limited to 40MB/s

Failed at the step where you take the drive offline: "Disk attributes may not be changed on the current system disk or BIOS disk 0" Apparently this is due to the drive having an EFI partition on it, but I've not found the steps necessary to deal with this.

when i wanna add a physical hard disk, only my os disk is showing, which i didnt even take offline, but not the on i took offlinee

After performing all steps sucessfully, and clicking on connect, I just get a black screen on the VM console. I am pretty sure thebwin10 os on the external hd booted last time it was connected to the data interface and the real machine Any ideas? Thnxs. A lot to the uploader

should still function - its looking for a physical drive, it doesn't really care what type. If still having issues, please elaborate on your specific trouble.

Just to note, that echo/reverb on your voice makes it very difficult to concentrate on what you are saying when playing at my normal 2x speed...
