Those should never not even be built. 16 GB should been the bare minimum in the increments of 16 especially when you can't upgrade them. I'm old, but I used to buy the lowest memory mac and then upgrade them myself, but that's an ancient history.

The Mini looks interesting, I'll just need to add +6 to +8 readers for music scores (age 82). It would be lovely to have 4K stabilized video and HDR stills at rehearsals. I live with iOS/iPadOS but MacOS is too fraught with variable releases and new bugs, .tmp and .dot/~ files, et al. for a company that otherwise prides itself on its aesthetic sensibilities.

fr fr, my intel mac already runs 7.8 Gb from just opening safari, youtube and activity monitor. i have a feeling when M4 came out 16 Gb is already lacking! if the price of the 16Gb would be the same as the M4 8 Gb, i would totally opt for the 32Gb (assuming that upgrading 16 to 32 costs 200$)

At this point with my M1 Max, I just dont find these upgrades to change my quality of life anymore. I can do absoluletely anything i need with my M1 Max. Tho I dont play games nor do 3D rendering. But as a software developer, doing code, terminal, compilations and ocasional 3d/2d programming.. it just works smoothly.

Mac Mini with external power supply could make it extremely tiny and the external power could have ethernet inside making more space on the back of the device

@@brandonbeckham8803 If AI is the main focus of M4 then less RAM definitely doesn't look good. LLMs require a lot of ram when loaded locally. Same will be the case with Apple intelligence. If they keep 18gig RAM configuration on base M4 PROs then realistically it will leave lesser memory than before to work with when Apple Intelligence is also working in background. It will be a huge bottleneck.

M3 Max already really close to M2 Ultra, I believe M4 Max will beat M2 Ultra easily, specifically on GPU scaling performance.

@@zigglershow5383 yeah true, there is some benchmarks where the M3 max takes to lead, but the GPU lags behind. If the M4 max in a 14 inch MacBook can match or beat the CPU and GPU performance of my M2 ultra, then I just might sell the Mac studio for a MacBook. I’d have to see how well it can maintain the performance over a longer period of time, which is where the Mac Studio excels.

This will be a huge upgrade from my base MacBook Air with the M1, 8GB of RAM, and 256GB of storage. While the Air isn't my main computer, the new one will definitely take that spot. I'm really interested to see if the new M4 Pro will be able to handle 3 external thunderbolt displays or if we will still need to buy the M4Max for that. My regular home setup has a studio display and two of the older thunderbolt ones and it's really annoying that my M1Pro 14" can't drive all three in clamshell mode. ( I do cheat by using airplay to drive the third display but it's less than optimal).
