@@DIHVLD I had to delete the mod because it was so annoying but saying it doesn’t have any redeeming quality is just untrue. It’s a mod that has atleast a bit of build up and actually isn’t just an instakill. The monster design is fairly goofy with his buckteeth but I still think the place where you get sent is fairly scary with your volume turned down.

The funny thing is I remember the Rake in its original depiction just being a creepy little dude that sits at the foot of your bed and stares at you while you sleep. It's not supposed to run at you and scream bloody murder, it just sits and lets you ruminate in its presence. What makes it creepy is that you don't know it's motivation for being there in the first place. (And also that there's a creepy dude sitting at the foot of your bed staring at you)

It happened with the more popular story of the rake where it broke into a family's home and mutilated a child before jumping out of the window it came in from. After that, it became a child killer and when the people who read it started growing up, the ages of the rake's victims went up as well. The modern interpretation of it being an unkillable, murder machine that stalks through the forest with people looking to kill it or whatever could be from Roblox. The Rake mod here definitely follows that formula.

A jumpscare needs to build up tension to catch you off guard. As you can see from this video, a cascade of jumpscares removes the scare factor, this is why some games like Silent Hill or Darkwood are able to scare you with just very few monsters. You know nothing and you don't know when they'll come to you while you hide in the dark/fog. Monsters must be unpredictable to be scary.

"HELP MEEEEEEEEEEEE!" The sound spam alone makes me - and I'm just viewing of course - really hate the entities in a bad way. Too much music, too much (sometimes nonsensical) screams, too much activity, and it's all just so disconnected from each other which isn't great for the modpack. At all. I should make some mod packs of my own, but I'd rather do it all in a theme that is cohesive. Like the playstation horror thing, or the Ship of Theseus.

Forgive the unneeded side rant but oh my god The Silence is such a lame mod I don't understand how it's so prevalent in minecraft horror at all, it should be forgotten with the rest of the Dweller Slop. It's so badly designed, the mechanics around it are janky, the model looks stupid as hell, and it just spams you with jumpscares and loud noises all the time. Lets not forget that the paid uncensored version of the mod literally just spams you with gore. It's a terrible mod, and the dev is a vile scumbag for making money off of the real anguish of others in a horrible minecraft horror mod.

I feel like these mods don’t understand why a small subsection of Minecraft DIGITAL horror is scary. A lot of the content in this mod could be scary In a realistic setting, but by putting it in a block game, it looses all sutblety. To make a successful horror mod, it cannot be ever present, it needs to be a background mod that I shouldn’t even notice half the time. Take the knocker, it has a small chance to open your door. Now just imagine for a second. Imagine if instead of opening your door while your staring right at it, imagine if it opened while you were looking away, and the door opened, and the sound of the door opening didint play. Later in your game, you would find it open, and have to wonder why. These mods don’t play on the fear of the unkown, which is one of the biggest strengths of both digital and analogue horror.

Tbh you’re better off just using 1 or 2 infection mods like scape and run since they don’t instantly rush you with 37 pngs throw in some ambient sounds and weather with the infections and maybe some light non-dweller creepy mods (eg stalker creepers, nyf’s spiders) and you’re golden

Try the Blood mimicer. It's this weird japanese styled entity that stalks you and when you get close to it you'll be jumpscared. The issue is that whenever it spawns in it spawns RIGHT ON TOP OF YOU. So there is no way of avoiding it. I think I did get chased by it once but I couldn't fight it back.
