The border areas towards India and Afghanistan and Balochistan parts are critical as well as North side of Kshmir military presence and Kashmir Issue is also the reason. You can travel to alots of areas in that red zone without security. Remember there is no law stating that foreigners going in that red zone area need security escorts. The police are a bother. They usually tag along to ask for a bribe in the end. For your case I think the hotel they took you to was probably owned by their friend. So they wanted to help out with his business. Next time if security tries to tag along. Tell them to piss off….. trust me it works.

It is funny how they will crowd around and just stare as if you were from another planet. Well, to a lot of those who live outside of the major cities or villages, especially in the hills you might as well be an alien. A great friend and client of mine served two tours in Afghanistan, Pakistan, and Iraq.. He told me that they would go into these very poor and secluded villages in the mountains and when they kicked the door in to search their home, he told me that majority of these people had no clue there was a war even going on. As he put it, "suddenly the door flies open, and there is 5 to 10 soldiers with all their gear and guns and the night vision are now suddenly in every square foot of their home and don't know why and all of our guys might as well be aliens because they had never seen or experienced the advancements in technology.. He shared a few time how much if fucked with his head.. Just crazy..
