I've been following you for a bit. Did this for a living for a while. Did it in the bleeding edge days where Novell 4.11 was king. Thank GOODNESS I only do it for myself now.

I don’t know the cleaner in question, but… I had a fellow student whose homework floppy disk (yes, I’m that old) was unreadable when turned in to the professor two weeks in a row. Upon questioning, the student declared that they had completed each assignment as soon as they got home, then stuck the disk to the fridge (yes, with a magnet) so they wouldn’t forget it when they grabbed their lunchbox. The professor shared the story, not to embarrass the student (didn’t work), but to demonstrate the logical steps in troubleshooting computer issues, including talking through user/customer actions

Interesting story. We were working with a laptop the other day and notice that keys were getting attracted towards the laptop. We worked out the magnets in the speakers in the laptop were doing it. It is surpising how strong they were. So if I work if floppy disks again, I won't put them on top of the laptop.
