This video was an absolute life saver, today is halloween and my saber wouldn't power. Followed the troubleshooting up to the magnet where I couldn't get it to power. Turns out my old batters left a layer of acid on the plate that contacts the push pins from leaving them in to long. At first I thought it was just localized to the battery housing but it appears it spread to the PCB contact plate as well.

THANK YOU SO MUCH! My lightsaber was not recognizing my crystal when I inserted it into the hilt. (would not light up or make a sound when inserting it) Also, whenever I would insert the blade, it would take me like 5 minutes of rotating the blade before it would light up. (I would get the sound effect of inserting the blade each time tho) The ribbon cable did not seem to be damaged but was creased a few times. I replaced it anyway and now it works 100% of the time! Your guide was incredible helpful!

Thanks again Sir! This kind of stuff fascinates me. I started at a very young age taking my toys apart to see how they work. I was not always successful putting them back together, usually because the manufacturers felt it was necessary to GLUE parts together instead of using fasteners. I usually focused on the mechanical part of things, mainly because the electronics was more like voodoo. Over the years I've managed to gain a rudimentary knowledge of electronics and your videos help me to understand just a little bit more each time.

Wish I had found this video earlier, I never even thought to check that one of the batteries was low voltage. I was sure it was the magnetic sensor that broke after I hit something with the saber. I spent an hour and a half disassembling and reassembling both ends of the hilt. I got half way through this video and decided to try and check the battery. My multimeter said it was running at 3.3v and after individually testing all three batts, one of them was at 0.3v. I replaced it and put it back into the saber and everything worked.

The battery analysis alone helped me to figure out how to shut off the sounds that would randomly keep coming from it. Now I can enjoy peace and quiet, and sometimes have it on for some background ambiance lighting. Thank you!

kzbin.info/www/bejne/p3rboX6omNN6mbM Jump to the 8 minute mark if you want to cut to the chase. Add a switch between the two test points that the green and blue wires are connected to and that gives you a mechanical switch to power on the lightsaber.

Because it is new, I recommend that you contact Disney Merchandise Guest Services by email at merchandise.guest.services@disneyparks.com or call them at 877-560-6477. Tell them about the problem. They may be able to mail you a replacement. If you have already replaced the batteries, then either the crystal has broken or the electronics inside the lightsaber are broken. Neither is easy to repair, which is why I think you should contact Disney first.

How do you take the saber off? Only thing missing from the video
@_adventureplanet

I have an issue with the magnetic sensor on my hilt. Seemed to start happening after I took it through security at the airport. The X-ray scanner messed it up somehow. When I press the button down where the crystal goes it makes a misfire sound instead of the usual noise, and no lights appear. Also, the switch to turn it off / on just does nothing anymore, neither does holding a magnet up to the hilt as you did in this video. Annoying that they say it’s fine to take a lightsaber on as carry on luggage on a plane, and effectively encourage people to build a sabre who come from abroad, when clearly they can’t take the scanning at the airport.
@Ruthsarian
@Ruthsarian 2 жыл бұрын
Your first step should be to contact Disney via e-mail at merchandise.guest.services@disneyparks.com and explain to them the problem. They may be able to mail you a replacement core for free. Pull the battery pack and the crystal from the hilt. Wait about 5 minutes (or longer, waiting longer doesn't harm anything). Then put the battery pack back in the hilt. Then insert the crystal. Does the hilt make any noise indicating it's detected the crystal? Do lights the same color as the crystal start flashing in the windows just above where you insert the crystal? If no, or if the colors are wrong, replace the batteries. If yes, next insert a blade. Does the hilt make a noise indicating a blade has been inserted? If not then there could be an issue with the blade or the hilt preventing it from detecting the blade has been inserted. If you have access to another blade, try using that. If you have access to another hilt, try using the blade in that extra hilt. The goal is to identify if it's a problem with the blade or the hilt. If the blade is detected, and the lights blink inside the hilt, turn it on. If it doesn't ignite, turn it off. wait a few seconds, then try again. Try pulling and reinserting the blade as well. I have one hilt which sometimes needs a few ignite attempts before it works. Maybe yours is the same. If it still doesn't work, then lets hope Disney can mail you the replacement.

@@Ruthsarian I’ve emailed them as you requested. I hope they sort this as it’s an expensive purchase and I only done the experience this past Sunday, I’m now back home in the U.K. so it’s most frustrating. I’ve changed the batteries, and removed the pack from the hilt for 5+ mins, but the same happens. When I press down in the plastic button, I get a misfire sound, like I’ve turned the switch on without a blade inserted. I get no flashing lights or other sounds. When I fit the scrap around the hilt, and use the power switch, nothing happens. No sounds when placing a magnet close either. So disappointing. I’ve seen a number of issues popping up which seems to suggest these lightsabers aren’t exactly quality products which, for the price, is a little disheartening.

I saw your video and have question for you, my lightsaber blade doesn't turn on. I replace the batteries and try a different blade and still doesn't work. I don't here any sound or the lightsaber is turn on. I do hear sound when I remove the blade or install the blade. What do you think is the problems. I did try a different blade and it didn't work.
@Ruthsarian
@Ruthsarian Жыл бұрын
since you hear a sound when inserting and removing the blade, but the lightsaber doesn't turn on, makes me think the problem is with the switch. is this a savi's workshop lightsaber or a legacy lightsaber? a savi's workshop lightsaber uses a magnet in the switch to turn it on. you could remove the place with the switch and try using a magnet to turn the lightsaber on. if the magnet turns it on, then it's likely the magnet inside the switch either came loose or is out of position.

@Ruthsarian
@Ruthsarian Жыл бұрын
@@ricardosalcedo6840 on the inside of the plate that has the switch, you'll see a thin piece of black plastic that moves up and down with the switch. the magnet is inside that piece of plastic, at the end nearest the edge of the plate. to get to it you would need to unscrew the 4 screws of the larger black plastic piece that's on top of the thin piece that has the magnet. there'll be one more screw underneath that, which holds the outside switch to that thin black piece. unscrew that and you'll then be able to remove the thin black piece of plastic and see if the magnet is still there.

@Ruthsarian
@Ruthsarian Жыл бұрын
I would suggest first contacting Disney's Merchandise Guest Services. You can e-mail them at merchandise.guest.services@disney.com. Tell them about your problem with your ligthsaber. They may be able to send you a replacement for free. One more thing to try is removing the battery pack and leave it out for about 5 minutes, then reinsert the battery pack and see if that fixes it. Leaving the battery pack out for that long will reset the microcontroller inside the hilt and hopefully clear up any glitches that it may have encountered. It that doesn't fix it then, look for a small hole in the bottom of where the kyber crystal sits. When you insert a kyber crystal, there should be a light coming through that hole and lighting up the kyber crystal from below. Do you see that light when you insert a crystal? If you do, then the magnetic field sensor has probably failed. I don't know where to find replacement sensors. I think you may be stuck. If you don't, then the ribbon cable connecting the main logic PCB with the sensor PCB may have come loose or broken. At 8:40 in this video, kzbin.info/www/bejne/iZe1oHiMnd-MrLc, I point out the sensor and you can see the ribbon cable I'm talking about. If you try to disassemble your hilt, go very slowly, take lots of pictures, and be very gentle handling any of the wires or ribbon cables as they can break very easily.

I see "dark purple" in the datasheet. So you're saying this color is only supported by the blade and not the hilt? So it wouldn't be jist a simple rfid rewrite to get the dark purple color?
@Ruthsarian
@Ruthsarian 3 жыл бұрын
there's no RFID code (that I'm aware of, and I've tried a lot) which will cause the hilt to send the command to the blade to ignite dark purple. some future legacy saber might have the ability to use dark purple, but that's about it.

@Ruthsarian
@Ruthsarian 2 жыл бұрын
where in the process of removing the batteries are you having a problem? first, unscrew the pommel (bottom piece of 'scrap') from the hilt. you'll see the gray plastic body of the chassis and there should be a black plastic piece sticking out slightly. that's the battery pack. push in on the battery pack (push towards where the crystal is stored in the hilt) and turn counter-clockwise. the battery pack should turn maybe an 1/8th of a turn and stop, then you can pull the on the battery pack and should come out. once the battery pack is out, you'll notice 3 screws on the very top where the contact pads are. don't touch them. there is a fourth screw, it's on the side of the battery pack about halfway down from the top where the other 3 screws were. unscrew that one screw. it will not come out (it's designed to be held in place so you don't lose it). once that screw is loose, pull on the black plastic sleeve that the surrounds the middle of the battery pack (and that the screw is part of). it should slide up and off the battery pack. this will expose the three AAA batteries. then you can replace the batteries, reassemble, and you're good to go!

legacy sabers have different electronics. do you have access to a different lightsaber hilt? if you do, try the blade with that different hilt. if the blade doesn't work in the second hilt then it's a problem with the blade, not the hilt. i mentioned it in the video, but i have to ask, have you replaced the batteries in your hilt with new alkaline batteries?
