There's a few potential issues with these... 1# The crankshaft pulley can become mishaped which causes the tensioner to bounce on idle. 2# Sprag clutch pulley on the alternator, designed to take the bounce out of the belt (examples of sprag clutches on youtube). 3# Tensioner has failed, this is probably the least likely scenario but DIY's often change this first which makes no difference. 4# Contaminated or worn belt.

Nice vid, I had the same problem with my 116d, but the noise happened only in hot summer days. Luckily BMW repaired it without charging (something called Kulanz here in Germany), however, if I remember correctly, they have changed the ac compressor.

It's the same with me, it only squeaks in the summer or in warm weather. at BMW they change tensioner, damper pulley and belt twice. After a few days the belt squealing starts again. I also thought about the a/c compressor but since it works fine i thought it was not the problem. Did the problem go away for you after the change?

change new belt bmw oem is solvent??
@BlahBlahBleh3174 жыл бұрын
If you watched until the end 8:50 you would have known what I'd recommend. I started by changing the old original belt with the Continental. But, clearly the Continental belt is not suited for this car and I'd bet that the large majority of aftermarket belts out there are not as well. Why? Because of the belt surface and it's grip on the pulleys. See the video. After that I changed the tensioner but the problem persisted. But this time the problem was the Continental belt. With a new tensioner and a new original BMW belt the problem was fixed. So what was the problem? The belt was slipping in the pulleys at startup. What was causing it? I don't know. It was either metal fatigue on the tensioner spring and/or an old belt with insufficient grip. What I wish I would have done in the first place? Buying a new original belt and running it with the old tensioner and see if that alone fixed it. Because replacing the tensioner might have been redundant. As such I would recommend that you start by replacing the v-belt with an original one. Should be about EUR 30. The rationale of trying this first is that it's easy and relatively cheap. If eventually the problem is not fixed and you end up needing a new tensioner you already have a new belt because that was the first thing you bought and tried. It doesn't really make sense to me having an old belt in there with a new tensioner. I managed to buy the SWAG tensioner for about EUR 60 and a new original should be around EUR 110. I have no opinion about which of the two you should buy, it's up to you. The prices listed are for parts only. Let me know what you did to get yours fixed!

Any problems with B37 engine anyone? I just hit 100k km and had a severe oil leak - oil filter housing gasket was the problem. Other than that no problems at all.
@BlahBlahBleh3173 жыл бұрын
Was it cheap to fix? Seems like an easy thing to fix if it was just the gasket, but I haven't looked it up. These 3cyl cars seem to be reliable. Plenty of them for sale on mobile.de with > 200.000 km. But they are at most 6 years old and you can't tell if there was major work done on them or not. Also, with that kind of mileage and that age they were doing highway kilometres for sure. City traffic is another ballpark and I'm not sure if they will hold up well in that environment. Plenty of them rolling around commuting and grocery shopping where I live at the moment though. One thing that came up this week was the crank pulley started to rust... Apparently the back is not painted and its flocking a bit of rust (also from the sides of the pulley where the belt doesn't touch) on to the v-belt and water pump wheel. But, as of yet it's not an issue, since it's only cosmetic. I'll keep an eye on it though. This superficial rust might not be bad construction per se, since the previous owner did enjoy her trips to the beach hehehe. And the car was very likely always parked outside. Weird nonetheless, since the weather here is pretty mellow on cars. Rust, even on old cars is mostly non-existent.

@@BlahBlahBleh317 I dont recall how much exactly it was - either 3500 CZK or 4500 CZK (135 EUR or 173 EUR). It was done by one independent repair shop specializing in BMW vehicles in Prague, the mechanic changed the gasket, topped up the oil and cleaned the engine bay, which was covered with oil, because I was driving for a while with the leakage and lost like 2-3 litres in total. The mechanic told me to get rid of the car around 150-160kkm, because there is high probability of breaking the timing chain later on, which is expensive to fix. Hard to say if those cars on mobile.de are right before servicing the timing chain or the service of the timing chain was already done. I bought my 116d (10/2015) on 5/2019 with 74kkm from Munich. Now I have 105kkm, I drive mostly highways and I avoid to use it for grocery shopping, I walk instead haha.
