I would wait to purchase a Litter-Robot 4. We had a LR3 for about 6 years. It had issues, but overall it was pretty stable. The LR4 has had nothing but problems. People are seeing this all over the place. The LR4 will just stop, often in an unusable position. It says, "Cat Sensor Fault". It's so bad people have setup regular litterboxes next to the LR4 in case it freezes while they are away.

I had two litter robot 3. Loved them! I went ahead and sold those to get two 4s. I have had NOTHING but issues with both! I’ve even had a new base sent to me. I hate the 4s, to many sensors.

It's been a poor experience so far. It immediately started flashing red/blue (this combination is not documented on the LR website). I've taken it apart multiple times. There is no litter in it. Multiple hard resets. No luck. It was delivered on a Friday and there is no(?) customer service until Monday. Very disappointed. Would not recommend.

I wish the app would tell you which sensor was tripped when a cycle is interrupted and the litter robot is stuck red mid cycle.

I do wish the app gave more information. They've added a good amount of more informational presentation within the app since I started using it so hopefully they will add more insight into errors.

I’ve had this thing for 2 weeks and I can’t say I love it. The solid red line has been on all day. I followed the troubleshooting instructions that are listed on the website. I’ve cleaned it 14 times - nothing. Solid red. Tried hard reset, nothing…it will not turn off after pressing both buttons at the same time for almost 45 seconds. The tunnel to the litter is fully open and I cannot get it to close because of this damn red light. I had to submit another ticket tonight and now I have to wait 3 business days for them to get back with me. A $750 machine should not be giving me this much trouble. I’m ready to send it back.

Oh wow that's pretty rough. Have you tried taking the bonnet off and resetting the globe into the "home position" manually? If not, and you're able to, I'd try that (unplug from power first) and then vacuum out the sensors in the top of the bezel. Hopefully you are able to get your problem resolved quickly

I had same problem. Mine was at least one of the following: it was on the carpet, the floor was not level, too much litter, firmware out of date. I fixed all of these at the same time an it works great. Start with carpet and leveling, I got a 4'x4' piece of plywood then shimmed it. Then go easy on the litter, even a scoop for over the round circle will create the problem. Note I scoured Reddit for a week to find solution... good user support there. Note firmware version and update capability is in the App.

Ours just keeps groaning while it has a little white / yellow light tracking back and forth. We even tried a hard reset. 🤷🏻‍♀️Nothing working yet. Still holding out hope though. 😏

Great video. I haven't had any issues with my LR4 yet. I've had it just over 3 months now(Bought it back in Dec 2023). It's been amazing so far. I have two LR3's and finally got the 4 to replace one of my LR3's(which is still working fine). All my LR's have been a HUGE help, especially to my 80+ yr old mother. No scooping for her since 2021! I highly recommend purchasing one. We started out with 6 cats since 2021. Unfortunately we are down to three now. Anyway, thanks again for the video. I will keep all this in mind if I do have any issues pop up! Cheers!

We've been having the same issues as most others on this comment thread. I think the sensors are TOO sensitive. Everytime my cat just walks past, it detects something, turns red, and does a full cycle. It is so aggravating because a $750 device should not be this insane. And also, your video is WAY more instructive that anything the company has provided, so thank you SO MUCH for it. I've done a hard reset and I am holding out hope that it behaves itself. It is such a great device if it weren't so annoying.

This video was soo helpful, i did a deep cleaning, after replacing the globe and plugging back on the unit, i had a constant red light and a worst yet a line up of cats to use the litter robot 😮. Honestly i was soo worried, i read the manual about 3 times trying to find the solution as the red lights was constant, but thanks to your video i was able to get the solid red lights off, thank you so much !

I had the LR3 for about a year and had to have multiple parts replaced, including sensors and eventually an entirely new base. After getting super frustrated with it, I decided to upgrade to the LR4, since they apparently have solved many of the issues many have had with the LR3. I Had the LR4 for approximately 2 weeks and it suddenly started getting stuck in the infamous solid red error mid cycle. After completing every fix I could find, I contacted whisker, and they sent me a brand new unit. Well, same deal. It's having even more issues than the first one. I'm a semi disabled person with 3 adult male cats, and it's very difficult for me to be continuously taking the whole thing apart over and over, only to find that it does the same thing. I've updated firmware, numerous hard resets, vacuumed everything I could think of. I even took a magnifying glass with the unit upside down to ensure there are no hairs or microscopic dust in view of any sensor cameras. It's just as much work trying to keep this thing working as scooping a regular litter box. Just my opinion. I'm currently waiting for customer service to wake up so I can call them and demand my money back. Just ridiculous.

They have a 90 day return policy you should be able to utilize to get your money back. (Normally they require the return shipping cost to be covered)

@@BeardedTechGuy I finally called them today, and after waiting on hold, listening to their god awful whiny hold music for over an hour, was able to get them to agree to a full refund and free return shipping with fedex pickup. Tehy won't issue the refund till they have the unit back, so I'll be cleaning it well and packing it up tomorrow. I'm going to order a Leo's Loo and see if it's any better. I'll stay posted to your channel for your future feedback on yours. I hope it works because I'm disgusted with the LR4.

We got our LR4 back in November. It's almost totally useless. Same exact issue. Freezes mid-cycle with solid red or blinking red error. Often it says "Cat Sensor Fault". The unit is not reliable to leave alone overnight. We are worried the cats won't be able to use it. Lately, we've started setting up a regular litterbox next to it in case this happens. The LR4 is almost totally useless. Customer service is a joke at this company. Really pathetic that they allowed this to happen!

Best litterbox is a regular non-mechanical one. It only takes me seconds to clean out my litterbox. I don't know what the big deal is. Your problem is probably having 3 cats. That's a lot of bio-waste and it's going to clog up your machine. You need one litterbox per cat, so I would not recommend this LB for multiple cat households.

We bought two LR4 cha ching... Been alright the only issue we keep having is the waste bin showing full. Replaced a bag today and shows 45% full when empty. Gonna try some of these fixes.

hi, my litter robot 4 shows a solid red light, and is stuck and will not move to return to home base. The hard reset you mentioned in the video didn't work. i also checked the globe inside to make sure there's no obstruction. Any idea what else I can do to get out of the solid light? Thank you!

Make sure to wipe down the sensors in the top of the bezel. Its possible some cat fur is on it causing it to trigger the cat sensor. You could also take a vacuum to the sensors to help get out anything near the sensors.

I keep the lights in our house dim, mostly lamps. The LR regularly stops mid-cycle, even after full cleaning. However, if I turn on the overhead light in the room it immediately starts again and completes the cycle with no issues. I randomly discovered this and wanted to share in case it helps anyone.

@@BeardedTechGuy Yes, the nightlight is functioning correctly and is on. But the cycle will start and stop in sputtering attempts until I turn on the overhead light. It's bizarre, so now I just make it part of my day to turn on the light in the room and let it cycle twice daily at minimum. Side note - mine is an LR 3 not a 4. I was considering upgrading due to this issue.

Our randomly stops as well. It usually says, "Cat Sensor Fault" and just remains in a frozen state until someone manually hits cancel. The unit isn't reliable enough to leave alone overnight. We fear it will freeze and the cats won't be able to use it. Total piece of garbage.

I’ve had mine for 3 years. It is not the 4. The first 2 years it was the best thing since sliced bread!! I had some bonnet sensor issues which were easily fixed by bending them a little and using WD40 to clean them. Worked great for a few months but is now not recognizing my cats. I’m wondering if it started going with one cat in it because he refuses to get in it anymore. It senses when I push down lightly, but it doesn’t turn red when a cat uses it. I’d going to take it apart and clean sensors further in to see if that will help. If it will just make it to 5 years I will consider it a huge success. When it works well I absolutely love it!!!

Great advice, but did not help to solve my solid red light problem. Totally cleaned and vacuumed it out and reoriented the globe, which was stuck upside down. My app says the waste is full, and it is not. Super frustrated because I submitted a work request on the website over a week ago, and haven’t heard a thing. Any advice?

Not sure how you submitted the request but if you didn't do it through the troubleshooter I recommend submitting a new ticket through the troubleshooter. Its supposed to give those tickets higher priority. support.litter-robot.com/s/litter-robot-4-troubleshooter?language=en_US Just select solid red and then indicate its not fixed at the bottom until it says to reach out to support. Once on the page that says to contact support, click where it says to to open a support ticket which should have a higher priority compared to a normal one opened via their website.

I have loved my LR4 until today. Walked in to find the 5 red bars and it stuck in the emptying position (how long have the cats not had access to litter? Oh my). First I changed the bin (app said it was 90% full). Then pressed and held the power button until it FINALLY turned off. Left it off for a few minutes. When i pressed power again, it came back online and finished the cycle. Hopefully just a fluke, but from all the comments ... thought i would share what worked for me.

You didn't go over the purple light in the video for Sleep mode and I was curious if after the sleep mode time ends, if the robot is supposed to automatically cycle. For some reason my LR app always shows interrupted and goes red after the sleep mode commences.

How is the DFI sensor at the top of the globe? How exactly does that measure the drawer fill level?

This isn’t a tech issue but do you know if the gray inside is replaceable? I can’t seem to find anything online. One of my cats has ended up ripping the gray cabin and made huge holes where litter gets stuck when it does it’s clean cycle, I’ve been thinking of just cleaning the inside and duct taping the holes but I can’t be sure he won’t do it again…

I have the three red lights and the flashing yellow. However, instead of three failed attempts and the LR staying in that position for the cat to use-- it rotates and dumps all of the litter into the drawer below. Additionally, there is no brick (or any other foreign object) in it. UGH!! This model is so expensive, but this is the second time I have encountered an issue. To make matters worse, one cannot reach customer service.

I would pull power from it and let it sit for 30 minutes and then plug it back in and try the hard reset. Also make sure that the bezel sensor area is clear of any debris. If you're still having problems I would reach out to support for further support

Hi I had a the red with white showing and I had sent a video to my daughter she also looked up what was possibly wrong with the litter robot. She and your video suggested it could have too much litter. I had just added more and watched it run a cycle. So I thought that was the answer. I even cleaned under the barrel. Can’t see anything out of place. But it still is groaning and went back to the red and yellow light. I tried doing a hard reset but so far it won’t let me. Got any tip on how to do the hard reset when it won’t go to the blue light? Thanks

I would try pulling the power plug from the wall and waiting a few minutes and then plugging it back into power and trying to hard reset again. If it is still not working, I would contact support

I think if it could get a hard reset I think it would be all good. I just can’t see anything out of place. I even went up from under where the drawer sits. Flashing red means cat sensor fault. make sure the litter is filled to the line in the bottom of the liner and not past it. If you have too much litter in the globe it can trigger this issue

If you're still having the issue, try running a clean cycle fully and then take the waste bin out and run another clean cycle to see if it says there is waste still. Just make sure you are doing a clean cycle and not an empty cycle so that you don't get litter all over with the waste bin out!

Red and yellow means the globe is jammed or overloaded. Its possible the litter you're using is too heavy or you might be putting too much in. Make sure you only fill up to the line on the globe liner. I assume you tried all the recommendations I mentioned starting at @5:49?

I’ve tried reset hard reset after filling with litter. I emptied first then filled to the line. Cycled, reset, hard reset. Solid blue but app still shows that the litter is empty

Mine just shows solid red. It looks as if it's ready to go, but the red is making me nuts. I vacuumed out any stray litter, but haven't yet cleaned the sensors.

It seems to need a lot of coddling to complete a cycle. And sometimes the waste doesn't seem to fall into the waste receptacle by itself. Other times it seems to be working correctly, but the leds show a solid red. It's pretty frustrating.

Red flashing means it thinks it detected a cat either through weight sensor or through the bezel sensors / its going through its wait timer. If you've gone through everything I suggested started at @3:10 in this video and still having the issue, you should contact support for further assistance.

My LR4 has started blinking bright GREEN while hanging upside down. Has anyone had this happen?

My issue is all blue lights and one white on the end at the right. I cannot connect my phone to it for some reason it says I'm using the wrong wifi password and I'm not. It was fine until this happened. I have it set to sleep mode over night, that part of the programming works and just to make sure they have a litter box I turn it off while at work. Get home then turn it on. I just need help with this connectivity issue. Yes I updated my phone, and uninstalled and reinstalled the app

My waste drawer never zeros out, I change it reset and it always starts at 20% full. It started out that way

I would contact support if you are still having issues. You could try running a clean cycle fully and then take the waste bin out and run another clean cycle to see if it says there is waste still. Just make sure you are doing a clean cycle and not an empty cycle so that you don't get litter all over with the waste bin out!

I spend more time troubleshooting the LR4 than I did scooping poop prior to owning it. Total waste of money. Building a computer for the first time is less of a headache than trying to figure out why this thing has stopped working again. Not to mention Litter Robot's "support" that is always busy and won't take your call. "Never Scoop Poop Again" (but you will have unhappy kitties trying to go potty while you become a regular service mechanic on a pooper scooper)

What about all 5 LEDs flashing red? It's a cat sensor fault... I keep getting them, like almost every time my cat uses it.

Flashing red means excess weight being detected. This means you might be overfilling your LR4 (only fill to the line on the globe liner) or the litter you are using is too heavy.

I bought it 6 months ago and now 3 LED Flashing Yellow errors keep popping up. Tried all ur troubleshoot but no help. Contacted support and they slow to reply... For 700 bucks without any discounts (not bundle), the support SUCKS!

I've had mine for 2 months and just took it apart for the first time so I could deep clean it. I am now getting the flashing between solid blue and solid red. It is for sure a robot 4.

I know support is a bit in a backlog right now. If you submit a ticket through the troubleshooter ( whisker.yonyx.com/y/conversation/?id=e45dd1d0-0162-11ed-9927-4201c0a8015f&lang=en ) the tickets are supposed to have a higher priority, but not sure time frame on responses for them.

@@BeardedTechGuy nothing …tried that multiple times. After stepping away for a while out of frustration, I figured it out…I went to the Controls setting, scrolled down to Advanced Settings and chose Update Network and followed the instructions…so far it’s working

FLINGS THINGS OUT My LR4 flings things out as it cycles. This has happened multiple times - - where I've found an incident or literally watched it happen. Its not my cat pushing things out, but the lr sending something flying as it is cycling. There needs to be an update asap that makes the clean cycle run slower. Anyone else have this issue? I've tried with the guard. Without the guard. Even tilting the robot back a bit. Commenting this everywhere so i can get a fix faster.

The app don’t register on my phone. When I scan the code on box it says already registered. It works on my wife’s android but not my IPhone. I’m not impressed

I'm pretty certain you can't have a device registered to multiple accounts. Instead you'll want to login to the account your wife set up on your phone.

@@BeardedTechGuy bought the product earlier this year and shortly after setting up it started giving me a drawer full when it wasn’t even a quarter full. Fixed that issue but then right after it gives me the problem that there is a torque over-fault. I get the base replaced and now it’s having a dumb sensor fault and it is the brand new base.

It works, it's fine. When it doesn't It's a constant pain in the butt. Now I'm having issues with how much litter is in the drum. It's about a handful now because if I put any more in and try and rebalance the weight of it, it DOESN'T EFFING WORK!

Purple means it's in "sleep mode", you should be able to turn that off within the app

What litter are you using? Outside of thick carpet the only other thing I know of causing weight issues is with really heavy or really light litter.

This product is junk. I purchased this new a few months ago but only opened it recently. It's missing a power input. I think you can purchase cheaper Chinese products with better build quality.

@@BeardedTechGuy Yes - I I noticed this hole and after a few hours realized there was nothing to plug in...it was just a hole. the connector was located inside next to the tray. I was able to slink what little slack there was through an opening on the side of the LR4 where the tray is. So awkward. I actually cut myself. They should be ashamed of this. Junk.

The best way to fix these problems is do not buy one. It's far, far easier just to use an ordinary litter box and quality sifter. Nothing breaks. It only takes me seconds to clean the litterbox. $700 for a mechanical litter box is very foolish.
