I learned from this video but I want to add something. You can disconnect all the t stat wires at the air handler then take a multimeter set to beep when there’s continuity. Then take your leads and go through each tstat wire bundle to see if any wires are shorting to each other. If no short there check the connections on the boards indoor and outdoor the same way. If it’s between common and o it’s most likely the reversing valve coil. Common and yellow could be the contactor or pressure switches. It’s all about knowing where the path of electricity is supposed to go and where it’s not.

Could you just have ohmed out the two coils to see if they are shorted and if so what are the proper ohm reading for a normal coil on both Thanks, love these videos..

This is awesome. Haven’t seen this kind of repair before. We would have quoted out a whole new unit and/or a reversing valve because it’s worth more money. I didn’t even think to just replace the coil, I’m sure there are different things to consider now and not just any 24v coil, i.e physical connections and plug styles, but where to get them per manufacturer. Anyways. Fun watch 🎉

also on new retro RV Coil fitment ....Direct fit parts can be a problem when ordering new hvac parts I have taken the outer medal shell off & slid just the Body in usually works

when you checked the transformer to see if it was sending power i think that part couldve been done quicker if you would have just turned the breaker off and just ohmed out both sides it wouldve saved you a few minutes but i do think you are awesome i just wanted to add that tidbit

Awesome video Taddy. Please continue to do more troubleshooting videos. Ex. What would cause a Blower motor on Auto, not run, but when T-Stat is switched to fan ON, the blower comes on? Weak transformer? Etc. thanks.

Your gas furnace has a limit switch that would control the fan. The t-stat controls the A/C blower.

The transformer’s only purpose is to reduce high voltage to low voltage. Possibly a t stat issue or relay. Multi meter is your best friend when troubleshooting electrical issues. Good luck!

What if it turns on but not blowing following Nest thermostat replacement. Cold air blows. Hot air not blowing although compressor works fine. Is it a fuse? I also cleaned out my Trane cage. Learning.

Sounds like it's a setting on the thermostat or a wiring issue.

When you took the old one out the connector was facing the side. When you put the new one on the connector was facing up and hit the shield until you cut it.

Brother I have something to ask you I bought a Mr cool 5 ton inverter heatpump its only a year and a half old my in-laws are old and get cold easy so I did some research and the Mr cool by far had the best reviews for a heat pump that can heat you home easy even when temperature s are 25 below with out using emergency heat so that's why I bought it and after I installed the unit it has ran flawlessly until about a month ago the heat would not come on the ac works fine but heat it does nothing so Im leaning towards the reversing valve i checked the voltage coming to the unit from the air handler it shows 24 v going into the control board of the condenser here's what I want to ask you the coil you found the short in that goes to the reverse valve is that supposed to have 24 v goi😢ng to it also because I have no power at all going to that coil please help if you can

Your equipment, it probably has a two hundred and forty volt, reversing valve But I wouldn't say that the reversing valve is the problem. I would say that I would check the charge. Because in heating mode, if the indoor coil does not reach the recommended temperature, then the indoor fan will not come on If the outdoor unit is coming on, but the indoor unit is not coming on in heating mode. That's what's wrong low charge

Its a 24 volt I know that much I have 24 volts going into the main board but I have nothing coming out of the main control board going to the coils also one of the coils have no resistance and the other one has resistance

You said make sure there is a inline fuse on the secondary side of the transformer so the fuse gets blown instead of burning up your transformer. But there was a fuse already there that wasn't blown. 🤔

Assuming the unit doesn’t have a fuse; always install one on the transformer’s low voltage side when replacing.

That was a reversing valve solenoid? 24 volts actuated? How fortunate. How do you know the reversing valve works? Could have jammed up & burnt up the solenoid. I've had that, so we got a new unit instead.
