Troubleshooting: Pellet Stove Auger Motor Hums but Won't Turn

In this video we troubleshoot a new pellet stove auger motor that is not rotating. Sometimes a motor can get unbalanced from mishandling during shipping. The good news is this can easily be fixed with some adjustments. Before sending back a new auger motor that is not spinning, try the steps in this video to get your motor and pellet stove back up and running! FYI, we are using a "cheater cord" to be able to test the motor on a workbench. This is much easier that attempting to fiddle with the motor while installed on the stove.

Glad you found the video helpful! To make a cheater cord, simply cut the female end off an extension cord and add crimp-on female connectors to the wires.

On a Englander PVD 25, concerning the upper auger motor, is counter clockwise motor the correct motor. I understand the motor can be flipped.

Yes, the motor for the 25-PVD is counter clockwise facing the shaft. The Midwest Hearth model spins clockwise facing the shaft and would need to be reversed for your application.

My motor has 3 wires, Blue, Orange & White. So which two get the power leads??

That is what I would call it effective motor, I would never put that thing in my stove

My P24 Breckwell (25 years old) has just started to hum when I try to turn it on . When I press the start button, it just hums but doesn't kick on the convection blower, then after several seconds, the unit shuts off. I pulled the convection blower out, tested it, and it is fine. Do you have any idea what the problem is?

put new motor on pit boss turns on but will not rotate auger just a slight turn could the board be the issue

Only the first two gears are spinning and won’t engage the rest of the gears to turn the spindle. The spindle won’t spin. I had to get inside the box. Do you have any idea why? I’d appreciate the help so I can sell it to somebody that needs it.

i have a motor that works on the bench but doesn't turn continuous in the stove. Any ideas??
