3: 05 Peeling the line: The White Rat or the High Sweep both Start with immediate Tension
4:23 Hand and elbow position for maximizing the rod doing the work.
4:55 IMPORTANT: When I say peel immediately, what I mean is the actually peeling of the line to form the white rat should begin immediately when the sweep begins. But only AFTER the Fly SOAKS for a second.

I was watching Ed's video, and I think I figured out how he does Skagit cast. When he peel the line from water, his hand is almost facing up. Road (bend) the rod during peering, then he turns right hand when the small D-loop is produced so that the bent rod tip swings 180 degrees, and this bend rod propels the line forward nicely. There's no stop from peeling to forward cast stroke to maintain the bent rod. Ed turns right hand 180 degrees from peeling to forward cast. I tried this way and it works nicely. The bent rod tip during the peeling changes direction 180 degrees and rod tip swings forward to propel the line nicely. Well, this is my understanding about Skagit cast.

@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins do you still practice with a poly/versileader instead of a sinktip?
@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins
@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins 3 жыл бұрын
@@mikecoughlin5419 I don’t! I use 3’ level mono leader and fly for sink tips and straight mono leader for floating lines...7’ to 12’ give or take. I’m simplifying My fishing...at least for now. But I keep my floating poly handy in case I change my mind!

I laughed so baked at this more than i should've. Have you done a single handled micro skagit. I been messing with 4 weight 9 ft sage been a game changer. Just like to know how i can generate power faster and less movement been getting caught on high banks.

The trick is to do a counter clockwise circle as opposed to the spiral Spey. Play with it! Not really a full counterclockwise circle. Fixing to do a new Vimeo on demand series about it! Comming soon!

@@LineSpeedJediTimRawlins yay. I will mess with it Saturday when i take the 4 weight 9ft to average trout or litttle smallie footballs on the Conegenuit creek in central Pennsylvania. Do you ever do trout spey as opposed to full spey? I been curious on what full spey tod to get to match my local river and one for trout. What is the full spey = to a 9ft 5 weight all purpose large river rod?

Thanks Scott! I love your flies! I get them out and examine them once in a while and totally admire and enjoy their beauty along with all the special touches you add to them. I'm good for now but I would love to brainstorm with you on a few specialty LinespeedJedi creations! Charlie loves that blue fly of yours that he caught that nice summer run on! I lended it to a friend so he could emulate it (he loves that fly as do Charlie and me!) and when Charlie and I were fishing a good run Charlie said, "Ok Dad, where's my fly?" I was saddened to report to him, that it was out on loan and he must choose a different fly. We have had amazing results with blue fies, emboldened with blue flash, so if your fertile mind should produce something sensational along those lines, I would pay you handsomely for it!

Thanx for the tips. Just curious, I watch as many videos about this and similar style as I can and I believe I learn a lot, but I never see anyone catch fish in these streams and rivers. Are they just not in the river at this time?

That is a good question, and I feel for you. I fish the waters of the PNW for Steelhead and the numbers of fish returning to spawn are not that great. The lower Deschutes where I fish for Steelhead as well as other PNW rivers are experiencing pretty low returns although may be not quite as bad as the last few previous years. The rivers I fish like the Deschutes and Clearwater still have Summer Steelhead in them but I have been skunked many times in the last few years and even lately. Steelhead are the fish of 1000 casts so I am never surprised when I am skunded or dont get as much as a single pull. It's sad, but definitely a sign of the times and maybe why I enjoy casting so much. The only thing I can tell you is to keep fishing, keep casting, keep swinging and don't give up. Time on the water with your fly in the river consistently is really your only hope. Don't chase fishing reports, just keep swinging in water that has produced fish and the past and don't give up. Thanks for commenting and keep trying buddy!
