Troubleshooting the Mercury Black Max 200 || 1977 Wellcraft Boat Restoration

Greetings everyone, we're back with an update on the Wellcraft Boat restoration project! In this video we take a look at the mechanical side of the restoration and attempt to get the Mercury Black Max 200 motor running in order to water test the boat. Definitely rebuild the carbs, had an 82 black max 150 ran rough when I bought it. Rebuilt the carbs, thing was a beast. until a buddy borrowed my boat and ran without 2 stroke oil.

The V20 was one of the best hulls Wellcraft ever made, a lot of people were very upset when they stopped making it. A great rough water boat that I fished off the coast of NC. Only drawback I ever found was it had a 60 gal. fuel tank and it could have used a 100.

When the engine was running, it didn’t sound like it was running on all 6 cylinders, do a compression and spark check first. Then go from there, no need to put a lot of work into an engine that may have a “ bad “ cylinder .

Appreciate the feedback. Did both of those 120-125psi on all 6 cylinders, new plugs all around and spark on each. Im convinced it is something to do with one or all of the carbs. Gonna clean each out.

The gas on top the water that came out the tank is ethanol free because the water mixes with ethanol and the pure gas is on top

I would of put fresh gas in her not use the old gas that had crap in it
