He has it turned up with a tune, and 5" pipe all the way back. 165k on the ODO. Think I'm going to replace the lines at the filter housing just due to mileage. Kinda like radiator hoses ya know.

Awesome video. I just had my 2009 Silverido 2500HD Duramax with 185000 throw the same code towing uphill in 100 degree temperature. In 9 years its had this problem twice before. Same scenario but a lot less miles. I always change out fuel filter when it hits 50%

I recently diagnosed this exact code on a 2006 LLY that would only set code under heavy load after driving for approximately 50-70 miles. Once the code set and engine derated the code would set frequently and even stalled one time. After extensive digging I found the plastic portion on the filter housing that houses two o-rings and seals to the filter housing via an o-ring on the bottom had a very very tiny crack in it causing air to enter system. Hope this helps someone in the future and can save some brain damage.

Another common injector failure in LB7’s is deterioration of the ball/seat in the internal return circuit. If those items are badly worn, high return rates result with long crank times (because the CP3 cannot establish minimum rail pressure to wake up the FICM) or no start. Checking return rates on each bank can be fussy, but a relatively quick test can be performed by opening the return line at the tank and checking for 100ml (I believe) or less after 15 seconds of cranking. Pull Fuse 1 (double check that) to disable the FICM first. Again, this won’t ID which bank, but is a good go-no go test and you will probably want to change out all injectors anyway. Search KZbin for good videos on the details of this test. Other suggestions welcome.

My 08 LMM is fully deleted and EFI Live tuned. On tune 5 it starts out at 26K psi and starts bleeding down while under full throttle until it reaches 15k psi. I have ported fuel rail fittings and the fuel rail pressure relief valve delete plug. No leaks anywhere. Local diesel shop hasn't tested the truck yet but they think it's a bad regulator on the CP3. I do have the BMP lift pump kit with a CAT filter. Also, fuel lines look to be ok and my injector balance rates are perfect. No hazing, no rough idle, truck runs fine, but losses pressure under full throttle launches or passing traffic scenarios. My tuner and shop doesn't think the CP3 is bad. I'm currently at a loss for now. Can the fuel rail pressure sensor leak? Sometimes I get the "change filter" message and I've had the truck go into "reduced power mode" once and I cleared it out. Thinking about just replacing all the factory fuel lines and regulator on the CP3 and going from there. Anyone had this issue?

Why don't they think the CP3 is bad? FPR should not slowly bleed off and if you are delivering 15K while commanding 26K psi, that is a big difference. Usually a bad regulator will show itself by loping at idle, not bleeding power. When the regulator is unplugged (no power to it) your CP3 will run at WOT.

Got a LBZ 180K miles. I get a 0087 only after it gets heated up (fuel temp over 180*), under load in 5th gear. I drop into 4th and never get a code and I can maintain higher RPM TOWING MY 5th wheel up grades. If I leave it in 5th, I better go to the clear code screen on my edge CTS2 cause it’ll limp every time. I’ve been told there was a TSB that said replace fuel lines. They supposedly collapse under load. Can this happen even if I’m running a lift pump?

shouldnt happen with a lift pump. without a lift pump they can collapse from the vacuum in the line, but with a lift pump adding pressure they shouldn't collapse.

04.5 lly get a fuel knock on right side of engine from 1300 to 1500 rpms and then it smooths out also when i start the truck i get a slight rpm drop before it smooths out i was thinking fpr any advice?

Tried a vac gauge in the test port. Taking it for a drive it quickly/steadily climbs to about 25 and stays there. Even after letting it idle in park for a bit. Just stays around 25. This is after replacing 2 seemingly kinked fuel lines. Clogged fuel pickup? Fuel filter fresh and always changed religiously.

I only get the P0087 code when hauling big loads on cruise, if you drive with your foot it never comes on....but the minute you turn cruise on and it starts pulling up a hill I'll get the code and truck will go into limp mode ?? I know your not supposed to use cruise when hauling but I do lol I have an 06 3500 with 472,000km on it. Injectors were done at 300,000km

2014 ecodiesel. I get P0087 at around 2200 rpm. No hesitation in the throttle. Truck runs fine. Recently had fuel system flushed by dealer. Did not get code until after they flushed it. New fuel filter. Please help. Were is the test port on the Ecodiesel? FRP_A_CMD 16,870 (psi) and FRP_A 13,008 PSI at time of error.

Hey guys! I have a 2009 Chevy 3500 duramax 4x4 thats throwing the P0087 and telling me to change my fuel filter (Something ive done twice, last time being 3 days ago). Anyhow i have a Mini maxx programmer that i keep on mild tune. I get the code either when i get on the accelerator pretty hard of if i hit a good hill. My main question is what scan tool can i buy on the cheap that would allow me to narrow my search down? i have a baby on the way so money is tight but thus truck is what i use for work (pipeline welder) so i cant shut down and let a professional look at it. Hi fellas I have a 05 lly that that threw this code. It happens if I let the truck idle for 10 to 15 minutes when cold to warm up. When it does it it idles fine but when I push the throttle it won't even idle up will barely move under its own power and sounds bad every now and then the truck will idle up a bit but doesn't lope. I can turn it off and restart and all is good. I replaced the fpr before this problem since the problem I've rebuilt the filter head, head hoses, filter, ice pick trick and x66p injector cleaner. If I just get in it start it and drive it's fine never lost prime and no long starts. I've been all through the forums and talked to mechanics with no results. Any help would be greatly appreciated

For what worit's worth, my LBZ had a big tune and no lift pump when I got it. Any prolonged WOT runs led to a dramatic drop in rail pressure and P0087. I installed a lift pump and the truck now holds 26k rail pressure and has tons of power. Moral of the story, lift pump should be the first thing you do to a Duramax

I have an 06 with 244,000 (original owner) on the clock it only throws the P0087 code when towing heavier trailers/camper uphill. No issues with the truck other than that. I'm thinking of trying the Fuel Rail Pressure Relief Valve Plug to see if that cures it. If not injector removal for testing. Your thoughts? I have a Bullydog GT Tuner on the truck only for the mileage improvement it provided. I've been told a 100GPH lift pump would solve the problem also. I have rebuilt the filter head gaskets and plan to do the cat filter adapter soon.

ok, so we have 2009 3500 chevy silverado duramax 6.6L. started off thinking it was fuel line changed all the lines new new filter. it all started hauling heavy load then light comes on and says the truck is reduce engine power in limp mode. pull off road for a few than it will run good like its a new truck. hit large holes on road then it does it again. the last time we had it on scan showed the p0087 but we thought we fixed the issue ran fine we get loaded and it back to doing the exact same thing as before powers down. this is crazy and I am hoping you all could pretty please give some advise. Failing CP3 or injectors, or your stock fuel pressure relief valve opening. You will want a scan tool that allows you to see desired and actual rail pressure. This will help point you in the right direction.

I have a question for you. I work in a diesel garage work but we work more on heavy equipment and are not specialized in any one type of motor. I have a 2003 duramax lb7. I bought this truck back in may and for the past few months I have been having an issue with it not starting. It is throwing no codes and has 132000 miles on it. The truck does not haze or smoke any at idle. The part that messes with this is that if you change the fuel filter it will start fine for a few days and slowly start taking longer to start until it wont start at all. We hooked a tech2 up to it and if we understood how the balance rates where to read after you adjusted for the fuel pressure rate then six of the injectors are bad, but if we didn't need to adjust the balance rates for the fuel pressure rate then only 1 injector was getting close to being bad. I have a hard time with this because the truck as never lost any power and still drives great. There is non fuel leaks to be found anywhere on the truck and there is no fuel in the oil either. Last thing to throw a monkey wrench in this is that when i change the fuel filter is it always half empty never full of fuel. Any insight on what the problem could be?

dankbobby It had cranked injectors. Figured it out when I smelled the fuel in the oil. Lift pump will be the next thing to put on the truck. I had also done the fuel filter head rebuild didn't help but didn't hurt either.

Tracey Oneal​ Hey Tracey if you don't a pretty good knowledge of motors I would say not to do it. I want to think that on your LLY that the injectors got moved out of the heads. My LB7 had the injectors in top of the heads and it made it a really big job. Check your oil level. If it is over full or smells like diesel it probably has a bad injector. They are pricey to replace and don't do just one. If one or two are bad the rest are likely to follow. Bite the bullet and have them all replaced. Cost me 4000 have them all replaced. How this helps you some.

+Evan Sizemore You probably need to rebuild or replace the fuel filter head/primer. The fuel filter head will start to suck air as the internal O-rings age and wear. A half full fuel filter is a sure indication that yours is sucking air and loosing prime. There are tons of merchants that sell fuel filter head rebuild kits.

What is considered high milage, my truck started this at 65,000 miles so did my sons and my nephew all three 2006 lbz that was pulling our campers up steep hills on the interstate we change fuel filters ever other oil change with oem or cat filters we have lift pumps and changed the fuel rail valve ,you'd think injectors would last longer than 65 000

pull your injector return line off the top of all your injectors and you will probably have one or two returning way too much the spec is like 2 or 3 cc per second. if you have anything more than a trickle trying to start it replace that sucker

I have a 2019 6.6 duramax in last year I've had 5 injectors replaced 2 times injector 3 and they went within 6 months of each other then number 3 went first time injector mechanical second time was electrical failure 3 months later number 7 they replaced both harness and injector I maintain truck every month at gm dealership oil filters all I do 25000 to 30000 km a month and can't keep injectors in this truck what gives???

I need y’all help I have a 2006 duramax lly I was pulling my camper for about 15 min and the p0087 code came on .. I changed the filter twice and the code is still on please help

It would be a good idea to start diagnostics on your Cp3. Have you already installed a Race Plug?

I’m pretty sure I figured it out but not sure because it happened when I was pulling my camper ..I had the filter changed and the code clear and is running fine now I guest well see what happens when I pull my camper again thank for the advise

Mine on a hard pull up a hill with my 5th wheel camper behind against a 20mph wind kicked up the code. It's got 212k on it so betting injectors. Before shop does them though I'll have pump checked.

Local diesel mechanic said a lift pump is just a band aid for bad injectors or pump on a stock pickup. My buddy has one on his Duramax but he has programmer, exhaust, and methanol injection.

The lift pump only benefits the fuel pump, which then feeds the fuel rail and then the injectors. If you have a problem with the fuel pump and/or injectors, not sure how the lift pump will mask or correct for that problem. In our experience, bad pumps and injectors are just that - regardless of whether the owner has a lift pump. We recommend the lift pump as the first modification for diesel owners. But in your case, it may not have any benefits if you have a problem on the fuel system's high-pressure side.

It has low fuel rail pressure but after he clears code it has 26000 psi on all injectors. We changed pressure relief valve and now we're going to check fuel lines for possible signs of collapse when it's under load. Mechanic is ruling out small items first.

My truck is throwing this a p0087 code and my truck won’t run (2006 Lbz) I have a new Cp3 and injectors but cp3 is good. What could this be

@bradybatson7625 Do you have a lift pump on the truck? If not you could be sucking up air. Also if you do, it could be the source of your problems. Otherwise ther'es not much left. Maybe a filter or fuel line could be clogged but there's not much else too the system than that.

@@bradybatson7625 The sending unit could have picked something up, causing a restriction that would trigger this code. Although I would suspect that if you have an aftermarket lift pump and filter unit then that could likely be the issue.

@Duramaxtuner 2006 gmc savanna van 3500 duramax 3720000 miles started afterI replace fuel rail sensor because of to much pressure, 29000 psi switch on, engine off or running

The fuel rail sensor corrected the high fuel rail pressure, few days later started getting the p0087. Replace filter, checked pressure screen in tank, low pressure to pump has closed to 14 psi

Sorry , but thats just throwing parts at it. Diagnose and test each parts prior to replace, At least thats what I learned.
