Leif, absolutely GREAT content once again! Some advice for water crossings that I picked up and use for back county hunting: Get yourself a pair of Crocs or "Aqua-socks." They weigh next to nothing and can be clipped to the outside of your pack to dry. Much better for keeping those rocks from pressing into your feet and really reduces the chance of loosing you footing and falling in. Fall into that water with your pack and your whole camp is soaked (unless your running a dry bag in your pack). As life long resident of western WA I love the alpine lakes and small rivers you fish. My absolute favorite fish to eat are the cold water "pan-fryer" sized rainbows. Keep up the amazing work

Couple tips for fly fishing: Always keep the line between the fingers that are holding the rod (only exception is casting). Put effort into making it a habit. That way you get a proper hook set and don't end up with a ton of slack like at 6:13. Also even when you're fishing with a strike indicator it's not like normal bobber fishing. You need to set the hook immediately when you see the bobber stop or move irregularly. The trout won't munch on it like they do with worms they'll spit it out in a matter of a second when they realize it's not a real insect. I hope these tips help! Great video as always!

@@loganrutherford2426 That's true but if you keep your line just tight enough that it won't affect the drift you can still feel the take from downstream. But yeah upstream fishing is mostly the way to go with indicators.

Really love your Channel and wanted to give a fly fishing tip, when you get snagged up on something subsurface pull in most of the slack in your line and walk a little ways upstream of your snag. Then align your rod so that it’s pointing right at the snag and make sure your line is tight (hold it and don’t let any line out) and gently pull, works like a charm when stuck on a log and such AND you’ll get to keep your flies more often than not. Happy fly fishing 🎣

The ones that i used with the greatest succes was a black gnat, and what i believe is som form of big caddis with two big fluffy wings(Some big flies were hatching) Another fly that works well here in Norway is the zulu silver(wetfly and dryfly).

Tip on the fishing. When your dead drifting your flies, try high-sticking or keeping you're rod higher this keeps more line off the water and reduces drag and makes it easier to get a nicer drift. Your probably don't need any line on the water when fishing that small of a stream. The first fish was a juvenile westslope cuttie. If you're going to be doing these types of thing often I'd look into ultralight wading boots, make for decent hiking boots and you don't have to take your shoes off but does require second shoes. I usually just bring Crocs to wear around after fishing. Great video looked like a fun trip look forward to part 2.
@briankelly6113 Жыл бұрын
Pro tip (35 + years experience and counting): I know it goes against everything we've been told about stream fishing but try this anyway, it works. Instead of casting upstream or even across, try standing above the pool or pocket that you're trying to target and cast downstream, not very far. Strip a bunch of line off the reel and just feed the line out letting the fly drift downstream about the same speed as the current, if possible. To the fish, it will look like a natural drift. Back eddies are a great place to do this because the fly will get into the eddy and just go around in circles, the more time it's in the water the more likely it is to attract a bite. You can also direct the fly into the pool/pocket by moving the rod tip around. You'll be able to cover all the fishable water using this technique. This may not be what the "experts" teach but it works, I have been catching a ton of fish in small streams like this for years. A great fly for rivers like this is the gold ribbed hare's ear nymph in a size 12 or smaller.

Mate! Loving your videos! My only suggestion with the fly fishing, when you get snagged (stuck on something in the river) use your rod to get as close as you can to the snag, pull from upstream as generally your fly will be travelling down stream when it gets stuck. Sometimes I pull the line so my rod tip is at the fly on the snag, a lot more chance of getting your fly back.
