Next time you guys go fishing like that. Try to use a bobber with a snap swivel and hang it between the eyes of the pole. Leave the snap open and let the bobber hang a foot or two. So if the fish goes towards you it drops and if the fish goes away the bobber goes up. But it allows you to know you are getting a bite and the trout cannot feel the resistance of the line and usually will not spit the hook. Good luck next time! I also have two daughters that I use to take fishing all of the time. Cherish those moments they grow so fast!
