Trout Fishing with Mice Tails and PowerBait (How to and rig set up)

In today's video I'll be out at two different lakes chasing those trout. I will be using all the usual trout fishing techniques from lures to bait. On this day the fish seemed to only want bait, namely Powerbait and Mice Tails. Lets see how it all turned out.

@@SeaSpankerOutdoors hello, rob. I found your rod holders very neat. I’m thinking of getting a pair for my father who can’t as easily jump out of his chair to pick up his rod. I see that you had to manually trip the holder a couple times. Do these holders only trip on more aggressive bites or why do you have to do that? Thanks for the video.

Carp was a natural colored goldfish. They can really proliferate when introduced to a lake.

Great decision to move to GV! 👍We had absolutely no bites at Big Bear below the Red House this past Saturday😪 and only a few people got lucky and had one trout. My buddy and I tried everything and different powerbait colors. Found out that green garlic glitter powerbait was the winner but we decided to leave Big Bear by 11:30 and head for Lake Gregory for the rest of the day. My buddy Terry and I each caught a tiny rainbow and released it.😀 At least we both didn't get skunked. Bites were really difficult at the Dog Park area at Lake Gregory.

Honestly all the shores haha. Gregory is one of those lake with lots of places for the trout to go, so they tend to move around alot from day to day. My favorite starting areas are the south shore east of the big parking lot (anywhere along that shoreline from point to point) and the cove at the southeast corner of the lake by the old baseball field. Hey Rob !..thank you always for your tutorials and you're expertise. I've bought plenty of jigs from Golden State and planned a solo hike to "forks of the Kern " are the power bait mice tails effective on the river as well as the tubes , and do I fish them the same ..ty Rob 😎👍

Short answer is yes they will be effective but the Berkley micetails Id fish different. Id use a a tiny splitshot with a 14-20” leader and drift fish it. GSF has powerball worms that are like small micetails that you can fish on a lead head just like a mini jig. If you wanna try those they work great, especially on dropshot 🤘

I’ll get out there with ya soon. Its just a GoPro Hero 7 Black in a special case by 3B Motorsports. The case allows me to run a cable with an external battery and still keeps it water resistant

Actually no, not typically. I much prefer to fish it on a #18 treble. I will throw it on a mosquito hook now and then just for a quick bait change and/or when im only lightly tossing it out a few feet. Essentially the bite got slow so I threw on some powerbait just to see and they were all over it. I just didn’t take the time to change the hook out 🤘

Great video as always. I do have a question about the blue handled gripper you use on the trout. I have a larger Boga grip I use in saltwater but where do you get the smaller ones? Like Turners, or EBay or Amazon? Would they be called something like a mini grip or ? They look smaller than my Boga grip. Thanks in advance…

Great video Rob! I'm always learning different techniques with your experiences. But I seen you also had issues with the rod holder hook sets at the beginning of the video. I have the same ones what did you do to it to get that hook set to activate once the fish Temps to take the bait?

Lots of times I’ll see the line jump or tighten up or even go slack. In those instances I’ll reach down and pull the trigger myself. Just make sure your clear of the rod coming up haha. Ive also have the trigger get stuck as it gets dirt in there once in a while. Ill clean it with a dry paintbrush or toothbrush and then spray a little wd40 or other lubricant in there and that usually fixes it up 🤘

Hey Brother great fishing video. I am surprised in the technique you used earlier in the video. I was not aware fishing the plastic worms off the bottom as opposed to actively fishing them would catch the attention of the trout. does that happen often in your experience.

Well those micetails weren’t fished off the bottom, they float. Micetails and the similar powerball worms are extremely effective fished on a dropshot or on a ballhead like a jig but if your gonna do bait and wait you need to have the ones that float or your probably not gonna get much.
