Hope to see you and the boys this season man my kids and I love watching your videos

Are mice tails or spartan minnows better for d drop shot?
@SeaSpankerOutdoors19 сағат бұрын
I cant really say one is better than the other. In my experience sometimes they want the minnows, sometimes the micetails, sometimes the micro baits, etc. the fish always make the decision IMO. Just like the other day at Silverwood, I caught a few on mini jigs but as soon as I switched to minnows the bite really took off. Most of the time when I do well at a lake on a certain bait and color the next time i go back they are interested in something else. I just try different things until I find something that works.

Do you think rooster tails will work? And how about just simple power bait on the drop shot?
@SeaSpankerOutdoors18 сағат бұрын
Rooster tails work great for trout. Ive caught lots of them over the years on those lures. Yes, powerbait will work on a dropshot. Just about any small bait real or artificial will work

How are you getting on with the fish? You are literally fishing in a small highly stocked pond. Kind of like shooting fish in a barrel. Takes no skill

Lol, I’ll give ya its not exactly a wild river in Alaska, but what you have to understand is that this channel is designed for beginners and folks that want to learn different styles of trout fishing. I also have lots of content showing more advanced techniques in Montana, Utah, Nevada, the eastern sierra, and lots of the more challenging SoCal waters if thats what your looking for 🤘

What kind of rod holder is that? Sorry, I'm from South Florida and never used rod holders before. I've been traveling around the country in my van for the last 2 years and started trout fishing about a year ago. I've always been a largemouth, peacock bass, inshore (mostly snook), and flats fisherman (of course bonefish are my favorite). I've really been enjoying fishing for trout, especially going to creeks, streams, and rivers while I'm hiking. My left arm is paralyzed, so tiring knots and everything involved in fishing is a lot harder for me to do and takes a lot longer than the average fisherman (it takes me a long time to tie knots, especially splicing fluoro leader to braids (I pretty much only use braid as my mainline nowadays and the double uni knit is pretty much the only knit I've figured out how to tie splice my fluoro leader to my braid). Sometimes I'll be camping out in lakes and will have one rod with Powerbait while using another rod with a lure at the same time. I've just been using a very basic rod holder. I'd love to use whatever rod holder it is that you're using. That thing is pretty sweet! I almost always release all the trout I catch, so I figure that rod holder will do a much better job at preventing the trout from being gut hooked. When they're gut hooked badly that's pretty much the only time I keep and eat the trout hahaha.

Damn I have a tough enough time with knots with two hands. Very impressive. Those rod holders are alot of fun to use. I got them on Amazon, here is the link LULUME Stainless Steel Rod Stand... www.amazon.com/dp/B07TWVL23J?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

Have you ever tried fishing hair jigs for trout? It seems like it’s not very popular in the California area
@SeaSpankerOutdoors3 күн бұрын
I have in the past and there are some small companies out here that make them but since they are hand made they are expensive. I dont think that one works necessarily better that the other, it just comes down to personal preference and what you think is gonna catch you more fish
@Ninj_SRG3 күн бұрын
@ i think where hair jigs shine is windy overcast days under a bobber. The bobber moves up and down from the waves and drifts slowly. The hair jig just dances at the perfect depth. With that being said I only fish with marabou since it moves with the slightest touch. If you have a PO box I can send you some I use for steelhead! I generally use 1/32 oz

@SeaSpankerOutdoors3 күн бұрын
The Observatory is a great place to get trout. Getting out there on foot right now is tough though as the water level is high. When it goes down a bit its very easy to get out there

What’s the benefit of using a bobber vs just the mini jig?
@SeaSpankerOutdoors3 күн бұрын
The bobber just allows for an even slower presentation when the fish want that. It is also useful for controlling your depth if the fish are on top of a weed bed 🤘

I live kinda close to the lake, besides staying on the lake. Sparks is one of the closest town to the lake. U can stay at the hotels at the legends outlet. Or western village casino at the sparks marina. Only about a mile off pyramid hwy. N why not pre fish the sparks marina while u at it(for tiger trout)😊. Scheels is a huge 2 story sporting good store. They have a bunch of guys that specialize in pyramid fishing. Only about 100yds from the hotels

Also, a bunch of the houses around the sparks marina are airbnb. You will be next to 2 smaller casinos, good food, decent fishing and a huge sporting goods store. All within a 3 minute walk.

@SeaSpankerOutdoors8 күн бұрын
Definitely summer or very early fall. I usually only move to slipbobbers during the warmer months 🤘
@1989JARR10 күн бұрын
I'll have to give dropshot a try with trout. I had 15 lb braid on my ul but I think I may drop down to 10 at least with it. For the summer it was all bluegill fishing with it with bait and I was going to see how that did with a 6lb floro leader it did with a spinner spoon or trout magnet jig/mousetail on a bobber for trout when they got stocked more heavily for winter months here
@SeaSpankerOutdoors10 күн бұрын
Definitely, dropshot is a great way to get on em. I would consider going lighter on the line, I use 4lb typically and thats sufficient for the occasional monster trout. The lighter line will enhance sensitivity and help you detect much lighter/softer bites

Thank you for the killer video. How far out are you able to cast with the smaller jig heads? And how long are you letting it sink before you start your retreive?
@SeaSpankerOutdoors10 күн бұрын
With the 1/8oz heads id say 60-70’ using a 9’ rod but 90% of the time your getting the fish 5-15’ in front of where your standing due to the dropoff. Sink time really depends on where your fishing as the terrain varies. In the sandy areas i let it go to the bottom, rocky areas i let it sink as close to the bottom as I can without getting it snagged

Nice vid and can you do a video about how to sight fish, lightning, trout, or how to catch lightning trout
@SeaSpankerOutdoors12 күн бұрын
Ive actually been getting alot of requests for a sight fishing video so im just working out how im gonna do it. As far as catching lightning, one thing that works is bright colored jigs. Especially orange/yellow. Once they’ve been introduced into a lake the bright colors look natural to the other fish. Just like bright colors will work well for some trout during spawning
@richarddragseth795313 күн бұрын
The two rod allows you to fish with two at same time, i.e., in a boat trolling. Each permit costs, so you double your costs. There is good camping at pelican point (north of the boat launch)with level asphalt pads for setting up campers and fairly decent toilets. Camping costs/vehicle, so it is best to show up in one vehicle.
@SeaSpankerOutdoors12 күн бұрын
Thanks for the info. That makes perfect sense. I wasn’t thinking about trolling haha

This is a GREAT teaching video! Thanks so much. A question about RHA spoons. I have never been to Pyramid, but have fished them in other waters. I like them, but to me the hook seems to be too close to the body of the spoon. I like to switch out the hooks for open eye Siwash hooks that have a longer shank. I would be interested to know what you think about this.
@SeaSpankerOutdoors13 күн бұрын
I agree and change out all my hooks for ones with larger eyes. I also like to add swivels above the hook. I feel it helps preventing the fish from spitting the hook especially if they jump
