Reusing worn baits is a great tip! I fly and spin fish, and the worn fly or spinner or soft plastic always works better than the new one. I have a woolly bugger with no more hackle on it, the chenille doesn’t stay on the hook very well anymore, and outfishes new woolly buggers. Same for tarnished Mepps.

I’m an inshore saltwater fisherman from Texas that uses ultralight gear. I have tried bass/crappie fishing with only marginal success. Using a rooster tail caught the most fish. I bought some trout magnets to try since I’ve got a Montana fishing trip planned and don’t know how to use a fly rod. (I’m trying to learn.). First time out I caught 13 small bass and 2 bluegill in an hour using a red and chartreuse trout magnet. I just bounced it off the bottom near the vegetation. I have an ultralight, six foot Temple Fork Trout and Panfish rod, 500 series Shimano Sahara reel with 5# braid and 8# mono leader. Great setup.

I never had luck while using the trout magnet with the bobber, I use the trout magnets without the bobbers. I cast them out and slightly bounce or jig off the bottom, and I do catch them way better. I always said you have to try what works best for you in any situations. Great information right here, you always do give us some great information and tips. Tight lines.

I too prefer to fish em no bobber, small little 1-3 inch twitches of the rod tip with a slow reel just enough to keep it off the bottom has caught me all of my trout magnet fish.

Does rigging it on a bobber give it enough action when the wind is up? I thought maybe the waves would give it some movement.
@WillyFish22 күн бұрын
Yes, the wind does give some action. But the best is always giving the rod a slight tug to move the trout magnet under the water to get the attention of the trout.

Just bought the red color and some trout magnet bobbers to fish wild sierra sierra Nevada creeks. I really like it for small isolated deep creek pools. It absolutely does catch trout. They attack it the instant it hits the water, you only have 3 max casts before all the trout in each pool get spooked and hide. I'm normally a panther martin / spinner guy but spinners aren't effective in small deep pools late in the season when the pools dont have as much flowing water through them as early summer. I still need to test the trout magnet in a river packed with browns. Theres a deep area where they wont bite spinners, im hoping this is the ticket

One thing I do is I bite off the 1st ring of the grub body and slide it up the hook to spread out the tail of the grub more. It causes the tails to have a lot more action. I save my tore up grub bodies to use the rings off of them.

What is with using braided line ? Are you not confident enough to set the hook and not snap your line ? I use trout magnets 4 pound test line ( not braided ) no swivel a bb size split shot along with the trout magnet bobber . My vintage 4ft one piece fenwick ultra lite spinning rod and a vintage shimano ultra lite spinning reel that holds 160 yrds of 2 pound , 120 yrds of 4 pound , 80 yrds of 6 pound light . Unless you’re trying to catch trout 10 pounds and in high fast water . Theres no need for braided line . Heres a challenge for you . Use a 4 ft ultra lite and reel with 2 pound line , no swivel only use the trout magnet bobber jig and color of your choice trout magnet bait . Then I’m sure you’ll impress guys like me that are confident enough to set a hook not snapping the line and working the fish in to land it instead of horsing the fish in . I’m doubting I’ll see a video of you doing this challenge or you’ll cheat somehow in doing so . Best of luck
@adam_mawz_maas9 ай бұрын
Braid is less brittle than fluoro so it takes day to day handling better. By using braid with flouro leader, you end up throwing away less line from abrasion because you are just swapping out leaders when they get damaged. Plus braid is a fair bit cheaper than Flouro. The Braid/Flouro combo also sinks better than Mono and is less visible at the lure than mono. Braid also tends to cast really nicely. You do run heavier line in terms of pound test on the braid, but the primary reason for that is just to match line diameters between the main line and leader. You can't just haul in with braid, since you're typically running a 2-4lb leader for trout magnets. We're not talking 15lb leader on 30lb braid like a Bass topwater setup.
@davidsnyder2423 Жыл бұрын
What is with the 10 pound braided line ? That tells me that you must not be confident enough to use traditional fishing line , a micro size reel and ultra lite 4-4 1/2 ft one piece pole . Ive been doing it for 45 yrs and have caught 5,6,7 pound wild brown trout . Come on now .
