Taken out from the German film DAS LIED DER SONNE, of 1933. It's another different footage from that in the Italian documentary by Rodolfo Celletti. The sound quality is a little poor, but it worths to see it.

This is amazing. Volpi caresses the music and then explodes in the passaggio and higher. In My Opinion, he was the greatest high note tenor in history. Great resonance to the voice

Huge, fantastic resonance on all notes, but especially the high D natural! Marvelous, marvelous singing. Not only is the voice possessed of stentorian power, but more importantly, beauty of tone & dynamic control. Those pianissimi are completely unexampled in tenors today, - as indeed is the upper voice squillo. How thrilling it is to hear it!

You got to listen his early recordings from 1920-ties and 1930-ties. He still recorded in 1950-ties, but do not listen to them. It is like with Pavarotti's performances. After 1985 Luciano voice lost its shine and he should withdraw from farther singing, but he did not. He was unable to do it. Unfortunately...

@@johnfalstaff2270 There's still plenty of shine in the live La Boheme and Trovatore 1951 ,the 1953-54 concerts , and even in the Poliuto 1955-57 and Huguenots 1955 . The breath isn't as long as it used to be ,the pianissimi aren't so ringing as they used to be ,but otherwise from piano/mezzavoce upward there's still plenty of shine in the voice

@edraith4 жыл бұрын
@@Nangis123 ? Why name-dropping? Giacomo Lauri-Volpi was Franco Corelli's main teacher...
@Nangis1234 жыл бұрын
@@edraith You should ask him why he's doing the name dropping... No ,Lauri-Volpi wasn't Corelli's main teacher .If you don't believe me there is a fragment of an interview or documentary on utube called "Corelli talks about Lauri-Volpi" in which Corelli says he had visited Lauri Volpi in Burjasot three times ,first time he had stayed with him 10 days ,second time 20 days ,third time 30 days . 60 days in all do not make a "main" teacher nor do they make a singer , if it were so everybody would be an opera singer. Moreover Corelli and Lauri Volpi were different ,different style, different musicality ,different phrasing, different diction, also different voices as in timbre ,texture , tessiture and range .A good part of their respective repertory was also different ,more than it is usually assumed ,and the common part was not all of it common throughout their careers .
@edraith4 жыл бұрын
Believe me when I say Corelli looked at Lauri Volpi as his main and foremost inspiration, which is completely clear once you listen certain roles that both singers covered and in which Corelli clearly tried to replicate his master, friend and inspiration :)
@Nangis1234 жыл бұрын
@@edraith Well I can't hear the similarity and I've listened to lots of Corelli's recordings ,practically all his roles ,verismo ,Verdi ,the French roles ,everything .As I said ,different style ,different everything . I can hear a sort of similarity between Lauri Volpi's style and that of another singer's but certainly not Corelli's . I do not deny Corelli did hold lauri Volpi in great esteem . I see this phenomenon a lot ,Corelli fans dropping his name on Lauri Volpi's videos and claiming a similarity ,but I rarely see the opposite ,Lauri Volpi fans dropping his name on Corelli videos . Wonderful stuff! I thought I had or had heard everything Lauri-Volpi ever recorded. I was surprised by the high mezza voce. This must have been about the peak for LV. In the acustic era recordings his vibrato is too much for modern years. Only a few years later the top got shorter and the tone got harder. Here in 1933 though, he's stupendous.
