There is some speculation as to why Achilles' soldiers were called Myrmidons "ant-people" but it probably originates from the fact that the Myrmidons were professional soldiers that fought in disciplined formations and that reminded the Greeks of how ants walk in line and carry out orders without question. The Myrmidons probably stood out because everyone else at that time fought individual melees in one on one battles.

@deltaforce226 Myrmidons were from the plains of Thessaly, central Greece. In the Homeric poems they were considered as the elite forces of the campaign. They were also known as great horse breeders, a profession that generally the Thessalonians continued to the later years of classical Greece

@alexthehistorian I don't know about navy seals etc, but I thought that the producers dressed them in black to make them look more impressive and warlike (in comparison to the brown/poorly dressed Greeks and the rich/elaborate armours of the Trojans) and like a tight-knit war team. Note that they are an elite mercenary unit in the film. I don't remember Homer telling something about the color of their armours/shields. Can you give me the quote (rhapsody, verses).

True in the fact that he can beat a samurai. But you're kinda wrong in the sense that A) this is a movie lmao... and B) Being immortal means you can't die, but you can still become wounded. The story goes that Achilles' mother, Thetis, was dipping him in the River Styx. Her husband saw what was happening and stopped her right when she had Achilles at the heels, thinking that she was attempting to drown their son. Anyways, the river had made him immortal, but only from the heel up.

@jefflegos ok dude no hating or anything but just wanna correct a few things ok :), cannons werent invented yet thats true, a cannonball would not kill anyone if aimed at him( thats also very likely) but there was a thing called grape shot which was developed as an anti-infantry ammunition they didnt just have the ONE type of shot, there were always different calibers of cannon balls anywhere from pellet size to the Turks huge 20 inch ball :O, and gunpowder wasn't invented it was discovered :D

Trojans were Greeks also just like Athenians, Spartans and others. This was a civil war. Buy or download the Iliad and read the original mythos.The producers of this movie just took the names of the heroes from iliad and made a story that will fit in their 2 hour(i think) movie.

@joet66 No. They're Myrmidons. They eat kittens and small children and are the best warriors in ancient Greece. They have MINIMUM 400 Stamina points, whereas average Trojan warrior is at about 150.
@pat516813 жыл бұрын
@xHASSUNAx That isn't necessarily true, in this movie he is wounded above the heel and even in the original Iliad he is wounded several times. However, Achilles would still beat a samurai.

@MultiAREE Actually, yes. Conventional warfare (including in WW2) had killed countless times over the amount of humans as compared to any sort of nuclear, biological, or chemical strike. Almost all historians and other analysts agree that if the atomic bombs hadn't been dropped on Japan, the continuing war would have killed multiple times the amount of humans, including innocent civilians. So yes, conventional warfare (guns, tanks, artillery) kills far more people than any ICBMs.

Homer doesn't call the besiegers "Greeks" he calls them "Achaioi", "Danaioi" and "Argaioi". "Greek" was a Roman word. The Hellenes didn't (at least before 700BC) see themselves as a single people. On the other side, the Trojans probably spoke, not Greek, but a variety of Luwian, an Indo-European tongue related to Hittite. So, on balance, probably best not to *assume* anything.

@recoveryprankcalls The romans did control what you say, but the mongols controlled far more, see below. At the height of its power in the 1st and 2nd centuries AD, the Roman Empire consisted of some 2.2 million square miles (5.7 million sq. km) the mongol empire was the largest contiguous empire in the history of the world. At its greatest extent it stretched from the Danube to the Sea of Japan and from the Arctic to Cambodia, covering over 33,000,000 km2

Cannonballs don't explode, they were round shots. What, did you think those cannons fired shells or something? Far too early to even be considered. Cannonballs CAN kill people but they are not accurate enough to hit them reliably (even guns were not particularly accurate so a cannon is definitely not accurate). To kill people, they loaded different stuff, maybe nails or worse, CHAINS. The explosive power from the cannons were MORE than enough to kill a man.

You might have wanted to word it differently instead of mouthing off that I am "being wrong". Your syntax has room for error and of course people would read it as "can't actually kill people". Maybe you should WRITE BETTER. And as it is, Cannons actually can be used as an anti-personel weapon. You just need different ammunition. The example that i used which is chains is an actual practice that was used instead of cannonballs.

@cachorastaman I know what a grape shot is, There were cannon balls on chains to take out sails and what not. I'm not stupid. But why bring this up, Is pointless. The grapeshot would be useless with out a cannon or gunpowder. Why argue something that isn't possible for this time period? Not to mention grape shots are inaccurate and one might wound a few guys, But probably not kill them all. You're right about the Discovered not invented thing But you get the point. Your just arguing a Lost Cause

Obviously if i said who would win in a fight, Zeus or Minamoto no Yoshitsune, you don't need a genius to tell you its Zeus. Its the same thing, in the myth Achilles was an immortal who's unbelievably strong because his mother was a nymph/goddess. What is a mortal samurai when compared to Achilles?
