Wow, I had one with the same exact problem! I came across a same exact Troy-Bilt blower, like yours, and unfortunately, likely due to neglect from the previous owner, the piston, rings, and cylinder were badly scored when I tore the engine apart, which was causing oil to be pushed through the crankcase pressure line and into the carburetor, causing it to burn oil. However, since you're having the same exact problem that I was having a couple of years ago, it is possible that this particular engine has a design flaw.

I don’t think so. This unit was used by the owner for a number of years.

The are a poorly designed motor. They have plastic buttons in the piston to stop the gudgeon pin from falling out and rubbing groves in the bore. The plastic buttons wear out and the gudgeon pin wears a big groove in the bore so you have no compression. I have just pulled mine apart and machined grooves in the piston pin bore and fitted circlips so the gudgeon pin can't come out.

I’m sure they were made with a focus on cost and not quality.

@@GaryAhl I think they were made as cheap as possible too. What got me when i pulled mine apart was how the conrod has no little end bearing or bush but has a free floating piston. The gudgeon pin is solid and looks like cromolly and just runs on a cast steel conrod. They could have just had a press fit piston and it would have been easier to make and more reliable

Mine has blown oil out since it was brand new, and I’ve been very careful to not overfill the sump. Very disappointed. I bought the 4-cycle so that my wife wouldn’t have to worry about which gas to use.

Most brands you find in the big box stores are lower quality in my opinion. I’m partial to Stihl products.

This one ran pretty good for a while but I think it should have lasted longer than it did. Thank you for the comment!

Do you have a link for the rebuild kit. Got a craftsman just like this

Sorry, I don’t have a part number. I usually go to www.ereplacementparts.com and put in the make and model number to get the part numbers I need and then put the part number in Amazon.com. I’ll get it from whoever is cheaper.

Yes, it’s a good leaf blower for the homeowner.

NO! Ask any small engine mechanic. Don’t waste your money. They don’t even last 2 or three seasons of occasional homeowner use.

Stay away. I have the same oil issue after 2 seasons. Looks like I wasted $300. Well Troy Bilt will never get my money again. Pure junk.

The juice is never worth the squeeze with these 4 cycles made by MTD. They are complete garbage and won’t last even half as long as a 2 cycle blower that’s way less complicated. Stay away(as in run away) from any Troy-Bilt, Cub Cadet, and MTD. Ask any small engine mechanic that’s reputable.
