Mine is a 46" bronco 2011.. doesn't have a back and forth pedal has a lever on the left to go forward and reverse. I took it out of forward to turn around and I went and put it back in forward and it wouldn't go. I thought I had to pull it or push it across an acre, but I was messing with the lever and it would go ever so slowly like it wanted to go but was barely moving. I limped it back into the garage and that's where it's been for 2 weeks. Do you think you could be something with that variable speed pulley?

You got lucky, mine the transmission went out, MTD makes junk

All American riders are built poorly we used world leaders not any more. I would like them to improve their current models and quit focusing on making them cheep. Case in point the damn axle rust weld themselves how much more would it cost to use stainless steel. On the transmission that are not presureized why don't they put grease zirks on the how many times do you open one up only to find all the grease has swung off the gears? When I rebuilt mine in installed zirks. I would never buy a new one with all the built in planned obsolesce.
