The ump ruled it a homerun, while Torasco was arguing with him. The replay showed Maier clearly interfering but they never overturned it. Yankees went on to win the game, and this series, and then the World Series.

If the ball is fair and a fan touches the ball it usually a two free bases for the batter and base runners because of the fan interference. If you are criticizing a player or umpire loudly in the stands, it is usually okay if you do so with a clean tonged. But the moment you start using a nasty language, or using racists remarks, umpires can and will kick you out of the park. Baseballs bought at a store are worth around $10. Baseballs documented with a MLB stamp are worth more, and those documented from a game are worth $50. And if the ball marks a significant event in the batters career, and can be documented, can be worth over $100,000. Getting the ball documented after reaching the stands is difficult because a shady fan could easily switch the ball with another. So it is usually best to accept the autographed shirt, glove, bat, from the player for that special ball.
