Thanks. I have a 1968 Caddy with original wheel covers and I want to save them. This helps.

I have scratches on the outter lips of the wheelcover. Will the sandpaper remove them saftely using 180 - 600 grit?

Maybe a dumb question.. but would I do the same thing to fix a brass wall hanging sub god? Or would sanding make it worse?

I just got a new used set of wheel covers for my 1956 Mercury. There are some dents on the outer most lip where the metal is double layered. Any ideas how I would go about getting those dents out?

You need to get at the backside to remove the low spots.

Anybody know if this could be done to 35 year old stock pot lids? Heavy stainless steel but I would love to fix them as the replacements are crappy aluminum and nowhere near as good

Will using the buffer get rid of the scratches from using the sandpaper?
@troykane Жыл бұрын
After a series of sanding. Start course the finer and finer. I usually finish with no courser than 600 grit. The finer you go the easier the polishing is.

Do you do work for other people or only for yourself. I'd thought about making this a part-time hobby. I'm retired at age 70. I do have a couple sets of 55 and 56 Chevy Hubcaps that could use some working over.

Some of the GM hubcaps there seems to be a coating from the 70s years and the Ford as well 76 where the metal is not 100% stainless steel. Once you got through that coating it will Rust. Is there some information somewhere that says when they stopped making them out of pure stainless steel and went to some kind of steel zinc plated Maybe? Old Rolls-Royce hubcaps they're 100% stainless steel and you can fix them like you're doing those but some of the mid 70s GM you can polish them with a polishing wheel but if you got to really do some sanding they start to rust as early as 1972. How do you know if they're completely stainless steel or not.

I do not know

The coating youre referring to is "anodized". Alot of GMs aluminum accessories uses this process. You will need to find a shop that anodizes.
