Oil pressure is the lifeblood of any engine. The last thing you want to do is run your vehicle while oil pressure is low. Even if the oil is at the appropriate level, low pressure situations can still occur! This video shows you how to install a new oil pressure sensor on your 1994-2004 Chevy S-10.

Thank you for a completely thorough and professional video! I've been wrenching a very long time. THIS is how help video should look. Great work! Couple of notes for other viewers; This is a 4.3L V6 he's working on. The 2.2L S-10 engine sending unit is up front, passenger side, as I recall. Note too that the sending unit for this 4.3L engine is 1 wire, and SAE threads. This is accurate for early 2000's S-10 with 4.3L V6. I will also point out that there is a timing marker tab - visible from the top of the engine, driver side, mounted down near the harmonic balancer, about the 2 oclock position when viewing the engine from the front. No need to pull the pan to see those marks. Just use the index mark on the engine, have a friend bump the starter, and just put the harmonic balancer mark close as you can on the index tab. Snap a picture and hash mark the balancer, if you need a 100% certain "here's where the engine was" point. Then don't turn the engine over anymore until the distributor is back in. Snap a clear sharp closeup photo of the exact distributor orientation before you pull it, too. Put a definite clear and accurate index mark on the body of the distributor relative to the rotor tang. You can't miss. Finally, as some of you may note, he replaced the distributor with a new unit - So, when you are in there, plan on at least replacing the rotor and cap. The one he took out was worn out. They don't last forever. :-)

The socket for the oil sensor is 26mm 12pt deep and wide!

My mechanic in Tampa FL is $175 plus the part. I did see another video where they left the distributor in and worked around it, after removing the cap.

If possible, can you edit the title to state it's for the V-6? Would save us 4-cyl guys some search time.

2002 Chevrolet S-10 4.3 V6, I’m having the zero oil pressure when warmed up at idle. WhenI first start up engine oil pressure reads 40,. 1st. I will replace the oil pressure sensor, and I will report my result after complete it this. Note: Prior to this I was having ticking sound of a possible collapsed lifter, I did the Oil change and shorted the oil by 1 quart and added 1 quart of ATV fluid, yes automatic transmission fluid, the collapsed lifter ticking sound is gone, but hopefully I will correct the oils pressure problem after replacement of the oil pressure sensor, again I will report back my results after replacing oil pressure sensor. You answered my basic question about this issue. While the V8's switch is mounted vertically. My 4.3's switch is mounted horizontally. Under the distributor. Making it necessary to remove the distributor. So much for the easy fix. Thanks

Does the distributor shaft gear ratio on this 4.3 make less than one revolution per cam shaft revolution or is it one to one? I'm asking because wouldn't it be simpler to remove the cap and mark the contact arm wherever it is and not go through all the business of cranking the engine manually?

I have an Astro van and for the first time, after watching the crap you have to go through with this vehicle, I'm happy to have the Astro - I have to remove the doghouse to get to the engine all the time, the OPS is right there - wow

My dashboard says check gauges, my oil psi is at 0 psi even after i warm up and sometimes it goes back to normal, but just yesterday my 01 zr2 turned off while i was driving, it didnt even make a mile. i have 329K. Would it be the sensor making the pump not work properly, or is it both?

A regular wrench will work fine if you can get it down there and its not crazy tight

I hope y'all not listening to this dude about taking the distributor out. Making a 20 min job 3+ hr job. Get you a short ratchet with a oil pressure sensor socket on it. Put the socket on the sensor first then the rachet next. Then back the sensor out, then put the new one back the same way.

There's a lot more going on with that s10. Like oil cooler hoses leaking, front timing cover seal leaking.

You don't have to pull the distributor to change the sensor. Just take the cap off and you can get to it.
