I have the C.CraneSkywaveSSB. I worked Brazil last night with the onboard antenna and in the SW mode. I’m located in Springfield, MO - USA. I have several C.Crane. No complaints. As for the Grundig 750, I plan on purchasing one next year. They are good radios. WK0Y

I have a CCrane AM/FM/WEATHER band receiver that has 100% audio quality. I don't have the model number right now but I can tell you that this thing is built like a tank.It was given to me as a gift and was disappointed that it didn't include the shortwave bands.Looking at your Grundig,Tom,it appears they are about the same size. The only reason I'm posting this is because of the excellent audio and construction. I had never heard of CCrane until I got this one. Maybe,all CCrane receivers have great audio depending on the speaker size etc. BTW...the OfficialSWL channel and yours are about the only ones I listen to. Later....

A Grundig table-top connected to an external antenna vs the portable Skywave straight off the whip? Not a fair fight at all. Have them both off the whip and let's see how they do.

Great reception demo...I need to find out whether the Skywave has an external antenna jack. Somewhere I read that there are user complaints on this set...I'll try to backtrack and find those reports. Your testing so far is making me want a Skywave...I like the tactile clicks of the keys!

I liked this comparison But, the key difference in the reception between the Grundig with external antenna and the Skywave is the noise. And that noise is coming from your computer and camera - all those electrical appliances that are shielded by the antenna cable for the Grundig. So, it is not so much the external antenna being better but the inside interference picked up by the "internal" rod.

Nice video Tom. That little CCrane did ok considering the Grundig has a outside antenna. Can you force the backlight to stay on though or will it always go out ?

So far I have found no way to keep the backlight on. It may stay on if you have an AC adapter. Tom

On my AR1733 the filters appear to be fixed. On SW the tuning steps are 1 kHz and 5 kHz. Other than that, it works like your Skywave.

A Tecsun Pl-600 will cost you about $75 USD right now. Requiring SSB is pushing the cost up. If you can find one, the Radio Shack 20-629 is a good buy right now and has SSB. Tom

You do not have to spend a lot of money but conditions have be right for long distance receptions and for now they are not.

@@hamrad88 tnx. i do have few cheap Chinese fm/mw/sw radios and some actually work quite good, but fail utterly at stations with weak signal. im looking for something that has general coverage of stations that has its program in english language. would this skycrane fill this role with good antenna or is better to buy better radio?

Depending on where you live and what stations you want to listen to, right now conditions are not good for shortwave listening except on random occasions. This is an OK radio but not one of the best. You are going to have an outside antenna, something like the 750 in this video is a better way to go. There are many others that are better than the Skywave radio. See some of my other videos.
