I tried comparing these two radios using the same external speaker and have actually found the Tecsun to be more sensitive with very weak shortwave signals. That being said, I do agree with you in that the Grundig sounds better with most signals.

The PI-880 does pretty good for itself with reception even though the speaker on it is fairly small. Priced right, it's a good buy for starting DXers. Thanks for the review Tom. -73s

Sync mode uses single sideband because when active, it uses either the upper or lower sideband to reject signals and improve signal capture.

Tom, at least in this particular test, did you get the impression that the PL-880 had sensitivity "peaks" as opposed to the S750 sensitivity being more "level" across the tested stations frequencies ?

As to this video, while I do like the Pl880, overall I prefer the 660 that I have been using since I came to China. The sync detection is much better. Did you know that the Grundig 750 is actually also manufactured by Tecsun? Here in China, it actually sells as the Tecsun S-2000. I plan to pick it up sooner or later. See you around!

Interesting nicely done "Tom's active compare" that "shows" to many that if only the S750 was AM Sync equipped..it would hold its own better vs. newer units like the PL-880. This compare definitely useful to users / prospective buyers, giving more to think about when selecting products. Thank you Tom!

PL-880 is higher tech and 1/3 the price of the Grundig. The PL-880 is the better deal and the fine tuning is far superior.

I went with my car this morning in a place where we catch very badly in a hollow. Frankly on the FM I am disappointed with the PL880 because it does not compete with my car radio .What brand of transistor in the genre of this one has your opinion this brings closer to the quality of a car stereo? thank you

Great review . However, i was wondering if the the speakers of both the Tecsun and the Grundig are of the same size in terms of diameter. Obviously if one speaker is smaller the tinnier the sound. Also do you think if the Tecsun S2000 is any different than the Grundig/Eaton 750 since they are all made by the same manufacture?

I would guess that the 750 speaker is slightly larger. Also, I think the are some small differences between the 750 and the S2000. I would have to research to find out exactly. You might check for the reviews on swling.com
