In Uganda, one man's dream to fly a homemade helicopter has been repeatedly forced down to Earth. Joseph Nkaheza has crashed and been injured several times. But he says he is still aiming for the skies. Julius Mugambwa has the story.

Africa has never invented anything. There has never been one single thing that has actually come from any country. They just see a picture on the internet and try and emulate. I do this do, but never this complicated. You have to understand torque, gyroscopic precession, balance, and other things even I have no idea about. African countries are hell on earth. We should block the entire continent off. Female genital mutilation, gang rape of anything, hunting killing n eating albino children, fistula epidemic caused by sick cultural practices, rape of animals, and I could go on and on about the evil things that go on there. Fact check any of that if you want. You will be very very sad and sick when you find out the truth. Then you will understand why 12 percent of our population is responsible for 50 percent of all murder and violent crime. They even ship in rotten meat from Europe and sell and eat it. Frontal Lobes are very lacking there. It might make you mad and it might be r. It doesn't make it not the truth and fact. In Muslim countries men rape little boys all day and night. They think this is normal behavior. They told all the western soldiers this every time they found little boys on the bases. They actually told western forces that these children wanted this and god will forgive it. What do you want me to do rape my grandmother or sister. God would not forgive this. These little boys offer their bums in the night. That was actual quote from top ranking soldier Muslim soldier in documentary called Is this what winning looks like. Still think respectable? lol Sorry if you didn't know all of this. It really messes with the mind when you know how evil the world actually can be.

What are you talking about? He is not aspiring to be a pilot! He has an innovative/inventive mind. He wants to build helicopters. It is Ugandan govt that should set up an institute where such talents can be developed further with an aim of manufacturing to various aircrafts in due course. Africa is facing a curious challenge. Dreamers at the bottom of the technological pyramid lack the financial and technological skills to realize their dreams. And governments are just not concerned with them. And those close to the top of the pyramid are too comfortable having streamlined themselves into the cost life of employment, getting their "dirty cut" from tenders and lining their pockets with stolen public funds. All suffering from the sad and uninspiring mentality of studying only so as to get a job.

I think it is a replica/imitation of the helicopter which crashed in the footage. To make things interesting, the reporter created his own version of story. The blades and tail almost twice shorter. Engine shrinked triple the size. Cooling fan is welded as decoration purpose in the same spot as crashed helicopter, it service no purpose. The torque transferred thru the shaft in the tail not thru the chain. I don't blame the man who build the machine. I certainly like DIY people. Engineer it self didn't say anything suspicious. But I don't like the story which was represented in this video.

Yep same old story...after sponsorship to develop something that will never work just as a means of getting money ..the thing is the guy has built it to look like the one in the video that crashed yet its operating dynamics don't match that of the one flying.. the out of balance condition is a dead giveaway
@omegasupreme5527
@omegasupreme5527 5 жыл бұрын
@mike brink The tail on the one that crashed is also at least double the length and appears to be made out of a lighter metal like aluminum. It's definitely a send me money scam. The part where the guy was talking about getting in touch with the aviation industry made me laugh. For what? Ultra lights are mostly hobby level stuff. Unless you build a really good design and want to produce and market it yourself.

the tail propeller does not succes to compensate the rotation of the main propeller; the helicopter turns on itself, that is why the accident occurs !

Even the guy in the aircraft that flew is not the one he is interviewing, just look at the design and engineering, totally different! How can you make something fly in the first attempt then later create a generator? That guy that flew his is actually Kenyan and not Ugandan!

I wish I were rich. I'd by that man a Robbins R44 and flight training. His passion for flight is intense and his balls are clearly very big. I'd just love to give him that gift, I know the draw to flight. I sure hope he never gets hurt.

Having been an aircraft owner and builder/restorer of aircraft I see these African homebuilt machines and usually can only shake my head in wonderment at "WTF were they thinking?" This guy though appeared to be on the right track if he could achieve what seemed to be a relatively stable hover. He could with a bit of help and training in a/c construction principles get it right I would think!

If you really want to help this man, start by funding a helicopter ride for him. Have him become familiar with the real thing so he can gain some much needed inspiration. He's smart enough to figure the rest out on his own, with a some help from others.

Did anyone notice that in the first video made by other people it's a working helicopter...probably from a kit? The crash occurred due to poor piloting skill. The helicopter they show in the interview, however, is built completely from scrap to make it resemble the one in the video as much as possible, it is a replica that will never fly.

I came here expecting your typical fairground ride with a honda engine to laugh at, but I was pleasantly surprised. This is no Mi-24, but it flew at least in ground effect, built from scrap metal by a man who thought aircraft worked by magic until he dropped a fan, respect.

Get the guy some flight lessons. All he did was cut power too soon so it auto rotated under the inertia of the main rotor. Less power and more tail rotor and he was golden. This guy is a steam punk hero!

@S E P It doesn't matter. He should not waste valuable time, effort and money if he does not have the resources to achieve it. That is stupid! Start small. Build something that is achievable. Sell it. Make money. Use that money to buy further resources. Then build your helicopter. Unfortunately the moment an African gets hold of an angle grinder and a hammer he wants to build a spacecraft and fly to Mars
