Mike, sorry about posting an unrelated question on this video. How do I stop medium sized mealworm larva into pupating? This happens to me occasionally and I haven’t figured it out. Second question, have you considered packaging your mealworms sifters and discounting them? Maybe into groups of 3 and 5. Frankly, the pricing gave me sticker shock but I do see they are stainless and appear to be of high quality. What type of stainless are you using for these?

Hi. Thank you for reaching out! Regarding your first question, unfortunately, I don't know a way to stop medium-sized mealworms from pupating early. The best I can tell from my own experience, mealworms pupate when resources are scarce, so I would try to keep the number of mealworms down in each bin and make sure they have plenty of food and water and see if that helps. Regarding your second question, my LIGHTNING SIFTER™ pan sifters are made of 304 stainless steel, and they are solid. I can assure you that if you end up buying them, you will quickly appreciate why they are more expensive - they are built to last a long time! @@TheRealRancherMike Thanks. They were overcrowded. So I split them and refreshed the food. Another thing that happens when they are overcrowded is they get really warm! They grow fast(er) in spring and summer - at least for me. Thanks for letting me know about the discount. I'll let you know how they work out for me.

Quick question. I’ve started a mealworm farm . It’s time for me to separate my eggs from grass. What size screen do you use…? I’m a bit confused about that task.

Hi Alison. There is no easy way to separate eggs from frass because the eggs are tiny and attached to the frass. That is why it is important to remove the beetles from the bin where you are growing the mealworms. That way, the beetles don’t lay eggs in the frass. And once you move your beetles from their growing bin, you leave everything behind to grow out into tiny mealworms. That way, you never “separate” out anything in the beetle growing bins until the mealworms are full grown (which is months later). Hope that helps!
