No need for green bucket sifters anymore!

Mealworm farmers usually use the green bucket sifters from Amazon (tinyurl.com)
My round sifter inserts were designed for these green trays. But this video shows a neat trick that helps you bypass the green sifters altogether!

The best part about your system is that you can throw a lid on top and keep some dust down! It won’t stop all of it but I think it will make a huge difference

I've found a great source for finding sieves for mealworms, etc.: Temu! And so much cheaper than elsewhere! They have singles and sets but you have to spend some time to make sure you're getting the mesh sizes you want but worth it! Some sieves sets have the same size meshes, so not much help and a lot of them just don't tell you the size. I found 2 x different larger size green plastic sieves for only AU$3 - $4.00! A, couple of slotted stainless steel sieves that were only around AUS2.00 - AU$3.00. Ea one appeared a little different in mesh size. If one wasn't suitable, I can use the other in the kitchen. Then, 2x stainless steel mesh, one size 40 and the other size 50. Scrub that! I must've missed out on the size 50 (Blast!) and the order is $11.13 over so I'll have to complain about that and see what happens. Though I suppose I can consider that the postage but, it was supposed to be free. They're all from different senders but can be all ordered at once from the cart. I've used Temu only once before. I had to make other purchases as the minimum order for Australians was AU$40. There are other sieve items that are a little more expensive but still very cheap in comparison to other places..

How do you lift the sifter out and not lose the ones you sifted over the edge?

carefully, duh! Just gotta use the handle and lift straight up. If you've got a suggestion for improving this please let me know, since this is my biggest concern with these.

Yeah if it had a collar around it that is basically a "riser" yet it fits in the bucket it would be a game changer...I see those as they are being an issue of loosing larvae into the bucket when you lift it up.

I was thinking that a PO Erson could use some thick plastic and form a circle on the outside. Form it on ty he bottom and glue it down. The plastic on the side can be 3 or 4 inches high. That's what I'm thinking about doing

Where do you get the green sift trays? Seen them a few years ago but they are way out of my price range. Perhaps you could give the po folk the screen sizes so we can make them. Thanks for all you do, saved me some headaches thru this worm project. I only grow for my chickens at the moment.

I did not cycle my trays correctly. Is there a way to get eggs / small worms out of my frass?

Easiest method is to just let the frass sit for a couple months. You can place a slice of bread or potato on top to attract any worms that may be in the frass

This answer is dependent on your needs. If you sell worms by size you’ll need sifters of various sizes. If you just need the basics for a home farm you can get away with fewer sizes. 1/8, 1/12, 1/16, 1/20, and 1/30 are recommended for a basic setup.
