As a fellow Polynesian, I'm so proud of these boys. Spreading Polynesian culture makes me so happy.
@bobytubeify5 жыл бұрын
I've always differentiated between Polynesian and NZ maori culture (I'm not remotely from this part of the world), is this the wrong way to look at it? Do Maori identify generally as Polynesian or...? Not particularly clued up on this part of the world
@revonz5 жыл бұрын
We would identitfy with our tribe first then as maori and lastly of polynesian people. The tribes today can trace their important ancestors who migrated here from the islands. Our culture and language has hardly changed from the islands, we can speak our tribal tongue to other maori or islanders and can quite understand each other well.
@T_Senju5 жыл бұрын
We differentiate between Polynesians/Pacific Islanders and Maori here in NZ a lot and it's bc of their place as indigenous people...also I think outside of NZ Maori have a much stronger identity throughout the world than most other Poly islands.
@revonz5 жыл бұрын
@@zaharastill4096 warfare came with the canoes not from this land, guess where the canoes came from...pacific islands in polynesia, our culture is polynesian, the most common ancestor to all maori is toi te hurumanu also known as toi te huatahi or toi kairakau and he came from the islands then lived here. Before him the people here never fought, only those who came here did. Those that make up our modern tribe. Maori are known for warfare but if it was not for our ancestors from the islands we wouldnt be maori

These boys are doing us proud man. There is a video where they do a haka with a Danish crowd before a concert and it gave me fucking chills, especially when the crowd got in on it and was vibing it back. Being maori myself and liking metal, back even about 5 years ago, was weird. People expected you to listen to rap and stuff. But now that these lads are doing their thing, they're making maori more accessible to metal and vice versa. So cool. Big props to them.

I am not a trash metal fan per say but I love these kids, yes teens, who remind me of some of the rebellious bands of the 60's and that anti-establishment vibe. Here it is even more passionate as they are truly fighting to save one of the last indigenous cultures that is being erased by the current assimilation efforts within their country. They sing in their native language that less than 4% of the population now speaks, they are using their historical past with metal music today so that this culture survives tomorrow. How can you not love this band and what they are doing. I only hope now that they played Wacken (2018) and are signed up with Napalm that the label continues to let them sing in that native tongue, as I know a recent release was in English, which I get trying to get a wider audience but still this language, these stories and this sound are just awesome together so please don't lose that. Great reaction BTW and yes that was the fastest 7 minutes. Vice News did a great short piece on them (kzbin.info/www/bejne/ZoO4pZ6Xfdhqgq8) which really goes into their motivations. BTW they are District 9 movie lovers and took the band name from their favorite movie when they were 10 years old!!!!!

The musket & gunpowder introduced to tribal warfare would've been the equivalent of the Japanese being introduced to the atom bomb. New advanced weaponry will always be a game changer in warfare. First it was rocks, clubs & spears, then archery, gunpowder used in muskets & cannons, then it was aviation & tanks leading up to the biggest game changer so far - the atom bomb which led to a stalemate during the cold war (anyone recall any non nuclear power nation to invade or attack a nuclear power?) Suppose the next step in advanced weaponry is a device that can diffuse nuclear weapons?
