As a rookie driver who just recently got my first year in.. I have used Google satellite and street view for every single new stop and vendor if I've never been there. Literally a life saver I've been using for all 13 months.

I did the same when delivering produce for Schneider/Sprouts.

@@jmacd8817 I just put my 2 weeks in with my current company but the whole 12 months I've been doing Walmart dedicated so some of them stores are tight and you gotta use a certain entrance so it saved me. Also new vendors too.

Hey Shelton, I got my CDL Sept 2018. Spent six months pulling a flat bed, and then jumped into a tri-axle dump truck. Now am jumping back into a tractor trailer. Your videos and channel are going to be very useful to me. I like how you talk about set up and researching your drop point before arriving. I'll admit, nothing makes me more anxious than going somewhere and be ill informed. A little tip for new drivers.... never let your pride get in the way of asking for extra eyes on the ground. (but caution some spotters have no idea what they are doing). Also never sacrifice time for safety!

Awesome! Good Luck Joe.

Always enjoy your videos, the different camera angles help to visualize what the tractor/trailer are doing when you make a particular action. Very cool!

This is THE Most important thing that sets truck drivers apart. The ability to trip plan in advance by days or weeks & have backup plans for when/ if the primary is not achievable. CALL THE BUSINESS And ask them what they know about trucks delivering, or if that's even the Correct address & not just a drop yard they use sometimes.

I alys have couple of those small cones on me and if loading dock is not marked (no lines) I'll get out of the truck and set one or two as my reference points.

There is no way you can use Google Earth for planning what are you looking at is the picture it's not live
@AdvancedTruckBacking2 жыл бұрын
Why would you need a live satellite image? It's so you can plan on approaching the dock from the best direction. Sometimes you're given an address and the best way to approach the docks might be from a side street for example.
@brandonfrey15132 жыл бұрын
Yeah I agree, sometimes you find a rest stop that looks good and when you get there it's an overgrown forest, but using maps is a good start if you've never been somewhere
@Adzuma2 жыл бұрын
Even google maps works for me, however, there’s no telling what obstacles might be at the site that the satellite view doesn’t show, so be prepared
