Finally back to work renovating my 1995 S&S 9.5 foot truck camper. In episode 8 we get the aluminum roof removed and discover a lot more water damage, and plenty of mold!

This was my second RV roof. I replaced the roof on my 40' class A in 2018. kzbin.info/aero/PL6UZxE5wKuuHMYXpoqgOwl-cG_cmrNqeF Thanks for watching.

I just did a minor repair on a 2004 S&S 8.5SC that I traded a 2001 Holiday Rambler 5th wheel for and now I am thinking I didn't think that trade through very well. Oh well, I found some rot on the left front and tore out some of the plywood and replaced it with a patch. Ready for a fishing trip and didn't really want to tear into it any further at this point. This does bring up the point how I like full aluminum framed structures better so at least there is no structural rot in the event of a leak.

For sure. Here's a quick tip, pull a couple of screws from the trim and corner molding. If they are rusty you have water damage. I've noticed a nearly 100% correlation to where I found rusty screws, finding water damage.

That roof is really a project! Dang I bet my little Toyota RV is the same way. 😟

I just purchased a 1993 S&S 8.5 for the heck of it... kind of scared now! lol I have previously rebuilt the front overhang on an old Jambo class C- it was fun for a few days, then you find the rot! My S&S was supposedly always stored inside or under a car-port, so I hope I'm fine. The bubble windows are supposedly not available anywhere anymore, but hopefully mine will be ok. Lots of resealing to do this winter for sure! Your videos on the S&S are a God send! I want to add a solar panel to the roof, so your video is helpful to spotting the main framing struts. Do your codes on Amazon still work for you? I source there a lot. Thanks again!

That is awesome! It's not all that hard to actually repair it, it is a little hard when the rot just keeps coming. Yes, the bubble windows are unobtainum. There are lots of companies doing plexiglass forming but it's going to cost some coin to replace them. I'll be adding solar soon. Mine is prepped for it, and as soon a spring comes I'll be back to work on it. It would be very much appreciated if you use the amazon links. The easiest way is to visit amazon this way...amazon.com/shop/trbowlin . Again, thanks for watching and your support.

I had my Arizona room roof replaced with a 3 inch thick panels i didn't know they existed till I talked to a patio company, might work for your project
@trbowlin
@trbowlin 2 жыл бұрын
That's a good idea but those panels are twice as thick as the existing roof. I am trying to reuse the siding so I can't change dimensions much.

What a nightmare! I love how you approach these projects and have confidence you’ll get it done the right way. My luck I would probably fall through the rotted wood to the floor on my a$$, get pissed off and kick the whole thing to the curb.

That's a possibility... Its going to take some time to fix this thing up but I am making good progress.

If you only have to replace the roof and not any full sidewalls, it won’t be as bad of a project. You may be able to replace 1 roof panel at a time. I don’t know how your roof was constructed, but my truck camper had 3 separate roof panel sub assemblies.

The roof is one big panel, but easily replaced in 4 foot sections. There are some problems with the walls. I am trying to work in sections and keep things plumb as much as possible. I may have to brace the walls together so I can strip the rest of the roof off, though. I keep running into problems that would not exist if I just stripped the whole roof. Stay tuned

Great job so far and I am going to monitor this project closely as I am dealing with a rubber patch job on an RV here and going to wait to see how YOU do things before I get committed! Hope the rest of it goes well and look forward to seeing this project done. Also can you maybe comment on rubber roofs and how you would patch them if there is a tear in it?? what would be the proper way to do it? I'll look for your answers on the next few videos! Thank there dude!! Jeff

Thanks! I would use Eternabond tape amzn.to/3zPvS2U It is the absolute best for sealing rubber roofs. I've used it lots with great results.
