Crappie definitely moving up in the creeks and rivers this time of year, if you can see shad in the rivers the crappies are near by, i usually downsize to a smaller jig head 1/16 or 1/32 with a 1-1/2” jig, dead sticking it with a little shake every now And then works every time for me,Love you channel no matter what your catching.

I kept crappie in a fish tank. They sleep in the weeds with their tail at a 45* angle and their nose on the bottom. I would put 25 minnows in. Wouldn't eat them right away. 2 or 3 nights later would eat all of them.

Fellow Texan. Crappie tend to be in the creeks and shallows this time of year due to there spawning season. You will find the larger suspended in open water a few feet off the bottom. Good luck on the 2023 year and keep them tight lines..

I wish I could get on the water, but currently my boat is winterized and sitting in the barn. I have all of my ice gear literally sitting in my garage ready to go, but I have zero safe ice in my area lol. Our last below zero days were Christmas, and the average has been in the 40's since. Last week we had a 60 degree day, and I ended up getting an hour on the creek behind my house trying for some lethargic trout, but that was a bust when I get an emergency call in lol

I find that a GOOD Copolymer line like Trilene Sensation is the best for light tackle fishing for things like Crappie and Yellow Perch. The low vis green color works best for me. It gives me sensitivity comparable to braid and the low visibility of fluorocarbon.
