Truck Camping: Info about the Truck Topper/Cap I own.

In this video I talk about my Truck topper/ truck cap. I own a ARE MX truck topper. This topper has been awesome for me thus far. I talk about a few aspects of my truck topper that are great and a few that are not so great.

-Anyone who is even remotely toying with the idea of doing a DIY truck camper build needs to forget about buying an ARE MX series camper. Save a little more money and go with the TW high rise series. The cardinal rule is this: If thinking about a DIY truck camper build - ALWAYS go for the highest high rise camper top you can find. You will not regret this advice.

Great video. Could you please let us know what the measurement is for the clearance on the topper door to get in. From truck bed to bottom of door when open? Trying to figure out height that opening would be.

I bought the CX which is cab height. Its awesome but I wish I spent the few extra bucks for this one or even the TW. All of them are quality and have enough room to camp just wish I had more head room. Much cheaper than any slide in truck camper and more aerodynamic

For the topper water problem, maybe you could design a hard plastic or thin aluminum “rain gutter” to route the water from the topper to the bottom of the tailgate.

Great video! A question: how did you put a net that holds things on the interior ceiling?

I found these cap screws that work with the through bolts from the roof rack. I got them at home depot and just screwed them it.

I'm researching leer caps because they seem to be less expensive than ARE and I can get a leer much faster, even though I would prefer the MX, but you mention in the video that the ARE was more economical. Did you find leer to be more expensive overall?

Thanks for the vid! With the water leakage at the tailgate, do you worry about water pooling underneath your wooden floor to create mold or rust?

I haven't really had any worries about that. I imagine there is a bunch of dirt and dust build up underneath the floor. One of these days Ill take everything out and we'll see what has accumulated under there.

Roof rack is great for storage but kills your gas mileage, the noise can be very annoying too.

what made your choice for the aeroblade over the core bar? It's over $100 difference is it worth it? Also Does it hurt to smile that hard and often? Or are you consciously smiling to keep it positive. Lol. Thanks for the honest review. Couldnt decide for a month which top but I'm going with localality like you did. Century dealer and manufacturer are in so cal.

Great Q. I actually ordered the Core Bar because it was cheaper. When the topper arrived, it had the Aero blade bars pre-installed. Paid for the core and received the aero blade, couldn't complain. Best of luck with your topper.

@@zach_horowitz hey thanks for the response. That's lucky in respect of the upgrade. I just ordered my top from Century yesterday with core bars. I heard the newer design was just a bit harder to find attachments. 5 weeks away can't wait!

I wanted the ARE until I found out that the front top window is fake and it has 2 stupid holes/ bolts holding the fake window in place leaving the possibility of unnecessary leaks. So its going to be Leer 180 for me.

How do you not know th size of bolt and tool for your c clamp? The size is literally stamped on the socket itself. Looks like a 1/2" or 9/16 socket.
