@GaisaSanktejo2 жыл бұрын
Ookay, I'm already aware of the limitations of materials and tools where you live, but there are some idea's to consider: From what I understand, the tank collapsed due to the air vent getting blocked and the fuel pump's suction reduced the air pressure in the tank enough to cause it to collapse. Sooo... if the pump is strong enough to collapse the tank, why don't you fill the tank with water, then use a similar fuel pump (with the cutoff disabled) to pump water INTO the tank? If I'm right, that type of pump would be strong enough to put the tank under enough pressure to push the collapsed sections back out and a little teasing with a hammer could ease the creases in the metal. Tank fixed, less noise and zero need to play with the welder. A for effort A for results E for the most obnoxious method possible. All in all, its the end result that counts. I DO suggest trying the technique I suggested, it could save your ears from all that hammering and your eyes from arc eye
@--_DJ_--2 жыл бұрын
Air pressure outside the tank collapses the tank, not the suction from the pump. You would need a lot more pressure than a diesel lift pump would put out to push the dents out of that tank, and it would be very difficult to control what shape the tank would be after you got it to a pressure that would push the sides out.
@GaisaSanktejo2 жыл бұрын
@@--_DJ_-- you're spot on regarding the air pressure. With the inner air pressure being reduced, the outside air pressure would press on the tank, causing it to collapse.... I guess my original attempt at explaining it wasn't good enough. Either way, my hope was the pump could push enough water into the tank to work on returning the cylinder to its former shape, but you are right, the flat ends of the tank could bulge outwards, though the actual cylinder part, shouldn't deform if you cut the water off at the right time. I imagine a pressure washer would have the hydraulic force behind it to do the job and have the controll to stop before excessive distortion occurs, but I can't guarantee the state of the tank/drum ends if you don't cut the feed when the cylinder part is straightened out as good as it can be. I do know some mechanics and restorers have used hydroforming to repair tanks before though, so, from their experience, it should have some degree of success. As I said though, not sure about the flat ends though
@jackking55672 жыл бұрын
@@--_DJ_-- I can see that you scored low in physics when at school. You mention the crushing of atmosphere is too great for a lift pump to push the tank back to shape but what you fail to realise is that the lift pump is already within the atmosphere and thus has equilibrium with pressure. Any additional pressure made by the lift pump is a positive pressure above atmospheric air pressure. Such a simple equation and yet you missed it!
@--_DJ_--2 жыл бұрын
@@jackking5567 The pressure inside the tank and outside the tank being the same has nothing to do with the pressure a lift pump can output. My score in physics has very little bearing on anything here, my experience with lift pumps is pretty handy though. no doubt he is a hard worker but for next similar job he can use those timber along with two car jacks so he can fix the tank much more easily.Push from inside outwards😁

There is no doubt about the extraordinary skill of these people. But to put something like this in your car and fill it with several hundred litres of fuel (combustible) requires great courage...

Why not use air pressure to push most of the crush out first? That's a lot of hammering. I take it even the bystanders sitting there are deaf as well.
@UniqueThings182 жыл бұрын
These kind of pressure machine not exist here, only maximum hydraulic jack could help which he didn’t think to useful in this case🙂

It is extremely dangerous to use air pressure to expand a tank , I have also seen the tank explode at relatively low pressure causing life threatening injuries. If internal pressure is used the pressure is on all surfaces equally so a dent is no more likely to move than the flat ends. If a seam fails you have no warning or indication which way the masses amount of energy will go when released. You can't use heat because you don't know how to pressure in being affected.

Hydraulics is safe and doesn’t need fancy equipment. Even hand pumped hydraulic would do.

It could be dangerous using only air especially a tank that big. If it was full of water then you could use compressed air sense water doesn't compress. The best way would be to fill it up with water and then use a pressure washer.

They don't use side cutter grinder to prevent fire or lessens the risk of fire to cut in half this gas tank?
