I never had a ticket nor had ever been in an accident up to the day I was hit. I had to work one night and had to drive a long dark road which also had a very long, and tight curve. In the middle of that curve, I was hit by a drunk driver. I had nowhere to go to get out of his way. It pushed in the right front tire, threw me through the windshield as the gear shift stabbed my left leg. The bad part was when he backed up and hit me again hoping to finish me off! I dove through the broken windshield, the rearview mirror tearing a gaping hole in my head. I stood up and chased that SOB down the desolate and dark road until the police arrived. I was mad as heck. It took five officers to get me to lie down in the back of my now, one hour old truck I just picked up from the dealership. Blood filled the back of that truck. After I got calmed down by paramedics, they rushed me to the hospital to get 18 stitches. I looked like a cone head for two weeks. When we stood before the Judge, whose daughter I had grown up with, the Judge asked me if I had been hurt to which I replied, yes and explained. Then, the man they arrested claimed he wasn't the one driving! LOL The bailiff to him away. I never want to go through that again nor do I want it to happen to any other person. God Bless you.

👍👍👍Big thumbs up to the driver for doing this. My father was a tow truck driver for the last 15 years of his life before cancer got him, and I have cousins that were/are first responders. Driving under the influence is dangerous, regardless of whether it's weed, alcohol, narcotics, or prescription medications. Hell, even being sleep deprived is dangerous! I've lost count of the number of fatals and DUI-related accidents I've heard about. People, if you choose to drink, smoke weed, or whatever, please, don't drive while you're impaired. Make plans to stay the night, have a designated driver, take a cab, just don't drive while you're impaired. As for the driver who called it in, I just want to say you did the right thing, my guy. We all gotta watch out for ourselves and each other out there. Thanks for doing your part to keep the roads safe. That it took so long for police to arrive is a global thing, not surprising, luckily the drunk didn’t hit anyone. As a truck driver in the U.S. I’ve called the police on several suspected drunk drivers, the sad downside of our job, we see so many things like this, and fortunately or unfortunately we are the first to see it, and sadly the first on scene when they truly screw up. Many kudos to this driver. Few years back, had a driver weave all over the road, police were called, multiple officers responded, driver was stopped, he wasn’t drunk but had just pulled a 20 hr shift, he was pissed at the cops and me, but while one officer was dealing with him, another was viewing my dash cam, the guy didn’t realize that twice he almost hit a bridge abutment.

Years back, I came across a crappy car in New Holland Pennsylvania swerving right , left, speeding up twice the speed limit, forcing cars off the road all over the place. I immediately call the police, and the dispatcher puts me through directly speaking with responding officer relaying location and direction. It wasn't long before I saw a school bus ahead stopped letting off small children. The car sped up, moved right as to pass the bus on the right curb, where the kids were. I sped and laid on my horn and flashed my lights. The bus driver grabbed 1 kid back on the bus, a parent bolted out and ripped the kids out of the roadway, and the car barely missed hitting the bus and kids going about 80 mph. The driver's speed kept fluctuating dramatically, causing numerous other vehicles up on sidewalks or in ditches. They missed telephone poles by millimeters multiple times, side swiped one pole, stayed on the road. After about 3 minutes on the phone with the officer, he on her like white on rice. He was in the oncoming lane, saw her side swipe the pole, then over compensate into the his lane when he flipped on his lights. She slammed on her brakes and drove into the ditch. I helped pin her car in from behind, he pinned her from the front. Within another minute, 2 more units showed. It was a young lady, and unknown to me, she had an infant in a car seat with no base, the seat was wedged in the back seat. My wife had recorded it on a crappy cell phone which was used to convict her. Turns out, she was barely conscious and on the very edge of an OD on heroin. Using the video, it never went to trial, she pled guilty. We couldn't have been more proud of the speed and response of the police. It was a miracle no one died. Unfortunately, I don't think we have the video anymore. This is in contrast to a year later when I was working at a drive-thru restaurant window, a customer pulled up, and him and all 4 passengers were drunk to the point they couldn't hand me the money to pay for their food. He saw my hand at least 12 inches from where it was at all times. I immediately called the police, told them I have him held temporarily, I was told they were on their way. Town was small, they should have been there within 5 minutes, I held them at the windows for about 20 minutes, making excuses, but they had no sense of time. They eventually just drove off without their food. About 50 minutes after I called the police, an officer showed up (different Police department that first incident). What I estimate was a 500lb Policeman was outraged I didn't detain them. The drunk driver ended up hitting another car. Luckily there were no injuries to the other people, just his own passengers. Some police take their jobs seriously, other's not so much.
