Drivers need to be regulated for running shit loads. Drivers determine the price, if no one will run shit loads they can’t charge shit prices. It’s not rocket 🚀 science folks.
@franarmstrong8111
@franarmstrong8111 Жыл бұрын
I know drivers spout off about taking these so called shit loads. But, for some these loads are paying the bills, keeping a roof over their heads, food on the table, and providing for their families. Yes the freight rates are poor but, so is the economy. Manufacturing is also on a down swing. Retail, Construction, Food industry, Etc are all having some sort of economic down turn. The economic impact is hitting everyone not just the Trucking Industry. To some degree the the truck driver may influence the rates but, not to the extent that if we demand or stop caring cheap freight that some how the freight rates are going to magically go back up. Your talking about an industry that can’t find common ground to come together to shut down but, somehow we’re going to dictate freight rates. Right now Mega carriers carry a lot of weight and influence in Trucking Industry. AKA they set the stage for the rest of us. Besides who knows what hand shaking and A?? slapping is going on behind closed doors with the Dept of Transportation and these carriers. No its much more than drivers setting freight rates. Drivers don’t determine The worlds economy or manufacturing They transport it to the best of their ability. It can be a thankless job where your not appreciated, underpaid, with endless days/hours on road away from family. But, then ask yourself. Why did you become a Truck Driver to begin with?? (Not for the money I’m sure). You can always find fault in any Industry ?? The secret is how to survive and, make peace in it. In the end only you can determine if the You are good for the Trucking Industry not is the Trucking Industry good for you. You either love or hate the life style. It’s a take it or leave it attitude. My husband and, myself love the business even with its ups and, downs we’re in it for the long haul. I believe things will pick up. Even with changes on the horizon for the Trucking Industry. I believe the future is bright. Chin up, Safe Travels. Love to all. God Bless❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

@Fran Armstrong you got it all figured out! OR NOT!!! YOU'RE SO WRONG ON SO MANY LEVELS ITS ASTOUNDING!!! I'VE BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR MYSELF FOR OVER 20 YRS, TRUCK AND BROKERAGE, AND STILL DOING QUITE WELL AS I HAVE DIRECT CUSTOMERS. BUT LET ME PUT IT IN PLAIN SIMPKE ENGLISH... WE, THE TRUCKERS, HAVE THE POWER TO DICTATE FREIGHT RATES! IF YOU DONT UNDERSTAND THIS THEN "YOU" ARE DEFINITELY, MOST DEFINITELY, IN THE WRONG BUSINESS - "FOR THE LONG HAUL." What we don't have power over is the idiots that accept low ball rates. Especially those who are tax exempt per our great govt. But again, let's be clear here... mega carriers don't dictate a damn thing when it comes to spot market freight. The majority of their freight is contract - which has no direct correlation to the spot market. What we are seeing is an influx of small carriers/owner operators that thought they could strike it rich in the covid trucking boom but had absolutely no idea as to how to run a business. Now they are scrambling to stay afloat and in an attempt to win every bid/load cut rates. They will inevitably fail. Which means less trucks - which is no different than the same amount of trucks just saying no to cheap freight. Hence, we, the truckers, control the rates! Always have.. Always will. Their is no shortage of freight. It's everywhere every - single day. But their will be a shortage of idiots to take the cheap rates. Think about this.. you don't call a contractor and tell them how much you're going to pay them to get the job done. They come out and they give you an estimate based off of time+labour+expenses. You have the right to say yes or no but you don't set the price. Neither should shippers or brokers. But the idiots are giving them the power to do so.

If truck drivers would act like civilized people, maybe things would change? Throwing pee bottles, feces and mountains of trash everywhere is not the way to earn respect. The cost of cleaning up after the filth they throw all over America must be enormous,there went your pay raise! Shall I mention the constant speeding, tailgating,driving to fast for the conditions, driving in the left lane when signs clearly state”No trucks left lane”driving in the left lane at 35 mph up a hill,ignoring the” No truck route”signs,cutting people off when merging(you do not have the right of way when merging) using the engine brake in a residential area,ignoring the no parking signs,texting while driving, forging log books,ignoring bridge weight limits, always trying to out-stupid each other and destroying the English language.Did I forget anything?

All these owners offer these lease purchase rip-offs. They also aways say we got to keep the trucks moving. Well that is just too simplistic. You cant move your trucks unless you will have a load that you can haul that is profitable. Trucking is and will always be a mess because of competition. Just always amazed me how many of these drivers are clueless. Glad i am out of the game.

With Comrade Bitem in charge, our economy is getting crushed and fuel costs are staying high. The trucking companies that end up surviving this perfect storm will be the ones who operate the “plastic” trucks, have long term contracts or have a way to escape the high maint costs. Knowing your cost per mile is 1000% critical. That long nose Pete with all the bling and a 630hp engine, 3.55 rear gear is not getting close to the mpg as a plastic truck with a 455-505hp and 2.73-3.08 gear

@@timhoneycutt1367 Yes. Unless you are idling to offload the truck like a lot of people who pull end dump, bottom dump, pneumatic trailer do then you don’t need to idling the truck all day. A smarter way to do things when your drivers need climate control is to install an apu be it a diesel or a battery pack apu. It will save a lot in fuel and maintenance costs. Idling all day is the root cause of aftertreatment issues.

If a Pete gets 6mpg, and another truck get 8mpg, that’s a 35% difference. So, if your annual fuel expense is $75,000, then a 35% savings is $26,250. That’s not trivial.

@@2112LifeIsGood hate to tell you this, but Tesla already accomplished it. They are claiming their Semi can do 500 miles, at 2 percent grade at max weight of 82,000 pounds (equipment + load combined). If the driver runs at 8 hours straight, at 60mph, that's 480 miles. The 30 min break could be used to recharge, which should be enough for another 3 hours, enough for 1 day's worth of work. I hope that 600 miles range that you speak of is over an 11 hour 8+3 period, rather than a continuous 8 hour period. 600 miles in 8 hours is 75mph. If I was the owner, and a driver ran the equipment at 75 mph, they deserve to be fired ASAP.

For real. I've been out for 8 weeks by choice, and I'm working remote using my desktop in my rig. We got families to feed, and even if you're single, the extra grind isn't keeping up with inflation. Where are our raises at? I've driven every trailer type except bull haul, and bomb bomb tubes, my second job, in my cab shouldn't be a requirement. Praying freight volume, and prices recover. Thankfully I'm agriculture exempt right now. So I run like a bull hauler at night and sleep, 14hr later after a 1200 mile run that I put down in around 19-20hrs of driving. Regulate my secondary job on downtime where I'm stuck at receivers for more than a day drafting blue prints in SOLIDWORKS, get unloaded, wait for a load that is paying min 3.00 a mile "I have standards", and run that 💩too the ground hammer down. All the way again. Running like a Pre ELD cowboy through state roads, and cornfields. AG exemption is helping a lot. Cows need food, that way the bull haulers can haul more cows. I figured, the best thing I can do in this market, is to be at the front end of the supply chain. Corn, wheat, cotton, and feed. Steering wheel holders don't know nothing about that. Once you get to dry van you are fighting for scraps. I however provide the entire pie to everyone, from farm to factory, and I get to play by cow boy rules without smelling the poo.

Sorry to not agree. Beautiful truck by the way. But no shipper or receiver gives a damn about what truck you drive as long as you get there on time and no damages to their freight, that's just your impression. Just quit this stupid industry two months ago after 15 years on the road. Owned over 35-40 trucks during this time from W900 to the plastic trucks you talking about. I liked having nice trucks, but my drivers, most of them trash them faster than you could of clean it, some drivers were nice, but very few. Love seeing these beautiful classics on the road, but on these times they are a coffin ⚰️ for your business, when the margins are so low. An advice for new people getting into trucking? Get the hell out as fast as you can, this industry will eat you alive. You only live with the impression you making money, had years when I grossed few millions per year, to end almost bankrupt with a market like the one that is for the last year, eating through all the savings. Wish I would of never entered this.
